I was just diagnosed yesterday. I got the call while I was at work informing me of this new infection that I have. I'm just now getting the chance to break down. I wasn't expecting it. I went in for a yeast infection that I often get. I am 21 years old and I am scared. The only they told me is that I have HPV. If any of you have information or advice on anything about HPV please share it. I'm scared and the worst part is not knowing.

I went through the exact same thing as you. I'm 21, went into the doctors thinking I had a yeast infection and had them tell me it was hpv. It's shocking and very upsetting, and even though right now you feel scared and upset, possibly even depressed (I know I was) with time you will be okay, both both physically and emotionally. I wish I could let you know how okay you will be about this, but that is something a bit of time and information will give you. By the age of 50 80% of women will get hpv. Within two years the body will suppress the virus in most cases. It's transferred by skin to skin contact - so condoms are not 100%. That is why it's so common. You are not alone. I'm sure you have friends who have it and just don't know about it. Calm yourself and read all the past discussions. If you want to know more, ask around on this forum, everyone here is really nice, this website helped me a lot!

I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago and I'm still a mess. I have my good days and my bad. I found this site which cleared up a lot of things for me. (http://www.hpvfaq.com/hpv101.asp).
I was worried and didn't know who to talk to about it since I'm single (and haven't had a partner for two years!!! Talk about a shocker diagnosis haha). The more you talk to your friends the more you will find you are not alone.

Wow, talk about having a good relationship with your doctor! I too was told over the phone that I not only have high risk HPV (associated with certain cancers) I was also told I had a precancerous condition related to it and am being referred to an obgyn oncologist. Over the phone, just like that. It scares the crap out of you! Thank goodness for the internet because if you want answers from your health care professionals...........good luck. My advice to you is to be sure to go in for your yearly pap tests, be informed about HPV, find a doctor you feel comfortable with and find out what type you tested positive for. And if at all possible, try to get on with your life and don't fret. (I know, that isn't easy because I'm still in the throes of accepting this and learning to deal with it!)
My best wishes to you.
