I thought I would introduce myself. I have fibromyalgia and with the possible link to a new retrovirus XMRV I thought I would check out your group. I do think this is what is going to be the cause of my health problems and would like to learn from your experiences. I hope that's ok.
Thank You. Hugs Posted on 10/26/09, 03:10 pm |

The XMRV retrovirus that has recently been in the news is not really "new", it is just newly being detected by a few researchers, who think it might be linked to prostate or other human cancers.
Personally, I have serious doubts that it will prove to be an actual cause. There have been a few other groups in recent years, making almost identical claims about other mouse viruses. See for example: Mouse mammary tumor virus-like viral infection and human breast cancer Holland JF, Pogo BG. Clin Cancer Res. 2004 Sep 1;10(17):5647-9. PMID: 15355888 A human murine mammary tumour virus-like agent is an unconvincing aetiological agent for human breast cancer. Mant C, Cason J. Rev Med Virol. 2004 May-Jun;14(3):169-77. PMID: 15124233 Mouse mammary tumour-like virus gene sequences and specific breast cancer morphology. Glenn WK, Lawson JS, Whitaker NJ. J Clin Pathol. 2007 Sep;60(9):1071. Epub 2006 Dec 8. PMID: 17158634 An unlikely link? Researchers probe viral role in breast cancer. Ziegler J. J Natl Cancer Inst. 1997 May 7;89(9):608-10. PMID: 9150180
