During a converstation with my medical people who look after me i mentioned that my eye sight is changing, as i find reading small print a challenge these days.. They said to me that when i go for a eye test that i should tell the optition that i'm poz.. I am on meds... RITONAVIR,
REYATAZ and TRUVADA.. Does anyone have any idea why i should tell the optition my status?
Also is there a link with my eye sight and meds?

" The same is happening to my eyesight of recent. I'm just a tad older than you and quite frankly put this down to old age. Are you having to read small print at arms length or further away than you normally would have? Me too!

My older brother was circa the same age when his eyesight started to go the same way and all he needed was a pair of reading glasses. I'm not too bad just yet.

If it's just the small print reading that's causing you the issue then I'd say pretty much that's age related. If however you have other eye problems like sudden light flashes, multiple floaters, dark patches and peripheral vision going adrift ...then seek advice straight away.

Any eyesight change should be checked out and I do not see the necessity to disclose your status if the issue is just struggling to read small print at close range

The condition is described here:

" Well right and at 51 I have early cataracts and have to use reading glasses too but I still think all your healthcare professionals need to know status so they can look for things that pertain to PWA'S "

" I told my eye doctor because I tell all my health care practitioners. He said short of CMV there is no reason for him to know that. "

" I was recently diagnosed and I have had a total of 3 doctors tell me that I needed to get my eyes checked. I too have had some eye fatigue and lack of visual acuity, primarily when reading. My optician was very pleased that I told him about my status and he did a particular check of my eyes and said there was no indication that HIV had affected my eyes. Sorry, I can't remember exactly what he called it (not trying to be funny) but he did indeed look for something. Bottom line....go see your eye doctor "

" When I was taking Viramune, I frequently had headaches. Also, I noticed that my eyesigth was affected and changed with the quantiy of viramune in my system. For example if I missed a dose, my eyesight would return to normal.
Point is some meds may have an affect. pay close attention to your reactions to meds, write down times and use small print reading tests. If i is the meds there should be changes depending on the amount in your blood
Cmv is a factor, however the extreme of CMV is unusual if the cell count is high.
Finally, the growing older speaks for itself.
Rule out CMV, (cuase its a biggie).. Of course, glasses are a possiblilty.
All of these things require an eye exam and the person doing the exam needs to be fully aware of your health history. Moreover, a diagnois must be given with a verifiable parameters for success of any solution "
