10. How long should I wait to test and what is the 'window period' ? We know approximately how long it may take a person to produce antibodies to HIV based on years of data, research and advancements in testing. A person who has contracted HIV may show up positive as early as two weeks after the time they were infected. According to page 11 of the Module 6 Training Manual from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the vast majority of those who contract HIV will show up positive between 4—6 weeks after infection. To obtain a reliable test result, it is recommended that you wait at least six weeks after your last exposure. A tiny number of people may not test positive for three months. These are generally people with pre-existing immune disorders such as chemotherapy patients or recent organ transplant recipients who must take immune system-suppressing drugs. For this reason, many agencies will suggest a uniform three month test to cover everyone. Testing beyond three months is completely unnecessary. Here is a chart with approximate accuracy of HIV antibody testing: Time Accuracy 2 weeks…………………………50% 3 weeks…………………………75% 4 weeks…………………………95% 6 weeks…………………………99% 3 months…………………….100% Posted on 06/15/12, 03:15 pm |

Hi there,
I don't know much about rapid HIV testing, but I wondered if this was a home-testing kit or a clinic administered test? It sounds like you're having a panic over the reliability of the test that you took, which I know must feel really horrible, but I'm wondering if it would be helpful to discuss it with health professional? Or even an anonymous helpline service? I'm not sure where you are, so can't suggest any specific ones. From your post, it looks like you've taken two HIV tests at 38 days, both of came back negative. That sounds like a good outcome to me. If you're really worried about it though, it'd be good to speak with someone about your anxieties about it, and if it gives you extra peace of mind test again at the 12 week mark?

Well let me tell you.
one test was from a lagitamite comany in singapore called cs innovation they make hiv test kits other wise know as poc kits to USAID and who the test itself is called EZ TRUST hiv 1/2 I have taken about 2 of these in the past mth. They are sold aout of singapore and distributed out of uk africa and asia , often fount in pharmacies in maylasia. Both neg the second kit i have used called Home-bio-test is shipped from CA USA Its a combo test and its my prefered test because i can get it in three days, with me living in North Carolina USA I have used this test maybe 6 times, over 2 exposures since febuary all neg My exposure was i went out for drinks with friends and had medications in my system with me having PTSD, Rapid cycle Bipolar, Anxitey and panic disorder medications i was using was lithum and seroquil but anyways i got home and got online i lost 2 hours some how BLACK OUT and wasnt sure if i invited someone over off line for sex so i checked my account the following day and discovered that i didnt sent my email, address or phone number to anyone. but theres that possibility that i erased something somehow. I am very parinod by nature and by my disorders. One of my many pariond things is HIV my aunt died from it. And when you search the net for WINDOW TIMES no one knows whats best the CDC is lthe last of the who organization to change anything UK is often the first stating that 6 weeks could be a confirmation givin that you had no immuno disorders. CDC stepped up in 2008 with a simular window period saying that 99% of hiv infections would be reactive at 4-6 weeks. I have done alot of research via the WHO, USAID,USAIDS,Singapore MPA, Ex... But yet i still cant convince myself that i had no rsik i am healthy andeverything else i just need a good chat buddy to chat with over this and i can provide info on what i have learned. DONT BE a stranger i need you help as well KEVIN
