I had a total thyroidecteomy in july 2009 for Graves Disease and multinodular goitre. My initial recovery was good and I am feeling better. I am now on thyroxine replacement. My concern is have good days and really bad days where i am soo tired i just want to sleep. I dont know anyone who has had this and was wondering how long it takes to fully recover? Thanks.

Sorry for the reason you're here but glad you found us. I suspect you are suffering from the same fate most of us have suffered from - your doctor is not medicating you properly. You might want to read my thread "First Step after Diagnosis"....my story applies to your situation as well. Then, if you could post your labs with ranges, date of labs, meds dose at that time and any symptoms, we can help you sort through it all. Hopefully, your doctor is running at least FreeT4 and TSH...even better if he/she also runs Free T3. If this isn't the case, please still post your labs - and try to get your doctor to run FreeT4 as soon as possible.

I had a tt aug 2008 and still have days when I could stay in bed and sleep all day. I have some good days, but very few. I also have ted to go along with graves and that could be my problem. Good luck to you

Please, please, please do NOT let docs tell you it's your Graves' without taking a hard look at your labs.
I just did not accept that "dismissal" from my docs 'cuz I've felt completely like my old self while having Graves'. Admittedly, my old self had bad days, too. But, the "thyroid" bad days were too numerous and too severe and I KNOW they were due to the wrong (yet in-range) levels for me. I've had more invasive surgery than TT and I was completely my old self within 6 wks. Don't settle for anything without looking at your labs - you deserve better!

Also...If you havnt had a TSI test in over a year...that would be helpful as well. Remember...even though the thyroid is gone...you still have graves. Big Hugs...Kathy

Kathy, I had a tsi 3 months ago and it came down from 381 to 155. I was sooooooo happy. My endo is doing another one thurs. wish me luck.

Hi Andreeena,
I had my TT in 2007, It can take anywhere from a year upwards to get stable after TT everyone is differently some people get there quicker than others. Just make sure you are getting adequate Hormone replacement and that you are converting FT4 to FT3..It is still early days for you, do ask for copies of your thyroid results along with reference ranges so you can see how you are doing, You may need slight adjustments ion your THR until you get to where you feel at your best.
