Is there anyone outthere gainging weight instead of losing it?
I was diagnosed 2 days ago, and it was frustrating that the only symptom I would have liked to have, I didn't get. (I had a baby in September, and I have gained 30lbs since then).
My dr. said not everyone experiences it.

How have you been able to control or lose weight? I can't really excersise right now, my muscles are so weak and I get very breathless, and my heart will prob. jump out of my chest. I am just super frustrated and confused. I am also worried that when the treatment starts working I will gain weight even faster cause my metabilism is gonn slow down.

Any advise or support would be great!
Thank you

" I gained about 40 lbs. from Graves Disease and I too have struggled to lose the weight! However, I was able to lose about 20-30 lbs. by cutting out sugar, restricting my calorie intake, and working out regularly. Feel free to message me if you want to talk about creating a plan for yourself! I know you can do it though!! Hang in there...this disease is definitely challenging, but you can overcome it :) "

" I find that my tablets are making me put on weight. But it's stodgy weight around my lower abdomen. In my case though I think it's the fact the beta blockers and carbimazole are slowing down my metabolism. The weight loss was probably the only thing I didn't mind about Graves! Just eat healthily and in moderation. "

" i Brava:

Neither your beta blocker or Carbimazole is making you gain weight. It's having the wrong thyroid levels of the Free T3 and the Free T4 that makes you gain. The beta blocker regulates the FT3 and the CBZ regulates the FT4.

I hope this helps and clears up the misconcetion which people puts the blame on the meds when it's having the wrong thyroid levels within the 'normal' levels that causes the problems!

Take care... :-) "

" Yes. ot's very confusing! Noticed that before we even started on the ATD therapy how we had problems with the weight? For many people it was the weight loss and for the frew others, it was the weight gain.

Trust me, for the majority of us, once we got our Free T3 and Free T4 normalized within the 'normal' ranges to where we felt our best at, our weight stabilized as well.

Take care... :-) "
