I'm trying to change what I eat for breakfast, i eat too much sugar. I have yoplait cherry orchard yogurt, a stick of cheese, a glass of soy milk, and two packets of honey nut oatmeal. i want to replace the yogurt with something else since it has 27 grams of sugar in it. i'm looking for something with a higher protein content to keep me from getting hungry so soon. any suggestions?

" I eat eggs with a bit of toast and butter. I also eat oraganic healthy yogurt with the least amount of sugar or a healthier form of sugar. I make sure the yogurt has the friendly bacteria in it. I will put in Flaxseed oil and take Black Currant oil with it. I have eaten low sugared apple sauce with a string cheese stick. I try not to eat very much dairy (except the yogurt) because of it aggravating my RA and thyroid disease. I have also eaten grits and Cream of Wheat, but try not to eat much processed foods either. I have eaten oatmeal with healthier types of granola. Eating fresh fruits/veggies are great in the mornings as well.

Take care... :-) "

" Do you like cantalope? They are very plentiful now and are really good, also a fiber cereal with it will keep you regular if you have constipation problems. I like the raisin bran crunch, although don't know how much sugar is in it. "

" i don't have constipation problems...and i don't like cantalope lol. i do have a cereal from kashi (honey sunshine) that i could probably eat to get protein, plus it's good for you. i just can't think of anything else with protein...maybe i could eat different nuts or something. it's just hard because i get so hungry, i try to pack my breakfast full of protein! " If you can eat nuts and pulses (from India) as well as chicken, beef, mutton, and fishes; these might be good to eat in the AM as well.

" My nutritionist has recommended plain oatmeal (no sugar added) with some raisins or fruits and almonds (which I unfortunately can't eat). Almonds have Omega 3s (the good fats) and protein- I believe walnuts are the same (which I'm also allergic too!). You could also add some honey (local honey is best) if you can't stomach the plain oatmeal.
Cheese might be better than yogurt with sugar and I've heard it is best not to overdo it with soy (something about lowering interfering with thyroid function among other things- not sure if that applied to you since you had a TT). I'm also lactose intolerant and am allergic to soy milk so I'm very breakfast challenged!
As far as cereals, unfortunately Raisin Bran is one of the highest sugar levels (sorry Brans). You should read the labels and try to stay lower than 6 or 8 grams or so (or eat the plain oatmeal). Eggs are also a great source of protein- you can make scrambled easy in the microwave if you're pressed for time with a little milk and some whole wheat toast (make sure there is no sugar in the bread!) Sugar is hidden in everything. I definitely am not so great at avoiding it and am all about moderation but it does help to read labels to become more aware of it.
Good luck! :) "

" Not to stray from the subject but ....I just bought the new sugar substitute which is supposed to be natural and from the stevia plant...haven't tried it yet but I remember Elaine saying it was fine.If anything I eat too much sugar,in my coffee anyway, not really sweets. That must be why I like the raisin bran crunch....(bad brans) "

" I bought some Stevia a year or so ago and to me it tastes gross! If I stick with Turbinado sugar (raw cane sugar) or perhaps even a small amounts of Xylitol (too much causes diarrhea) then I'm okay.

Yeah, you right right Singersue, sugar definitely is hidden in everything!

Take care... :-) "
