" Hi mammy...I hadnt heard of this ATD so I looked it up. Yes, it is used to manage Hyper and its safe to take in prep for a TT or RAI. Check it out.

People are generally prescribed PTU if TED is present. There is an ingredient in PTU that works favorably to help TED symptoms. I have read this many times and the doc's arnt quite sure why or how...it just does. From the studies I have read...being on PTU is the better ATD choice if you have TED...Hugs Kathy "

" Hey mammy...Im not sure. It is the oldest ATD on the market, its like over 50 years. I think it was the first. So, I would imagine you could get it but you will have to ask your doc. I'll try to dig up those studies so you can take them with you when you see your doc next. It just may take a bit of time, but I will find them....Hugs..Kathy "

" Neomercazole is the choice drug used in the European countries, Australia and in other countries. It is similiar to the Methimazole(Tapazole) which is used here in the United States and wherever else is used, Canada?

PTU lasts about 2 hours half life and Tapazole lasts five to six hours half life.

Search at: www.wikipedia.org on these drugs.

I can't tell you which is a better choice drug for eye problems. Even though I had read from here that PTU is a choice drug for TED. I had read that Methimazole (Tapazole) is a better drug to use if one has arthritis.

You can do a search and see? Try asking the thyroid expert Elaine Moore at: www.elaine-moore.com these questions. She is helped many of us with thyroid questions most recently and in the past. She has great articles on her website and has written several thyroid books.

Take care... :-) "
