At the time of my diagnosis, my Boyfriend was diagnosed with Diabetes Type II so we both changed our diets and stuck to 'fresh and natural'.
Funnily enough, I had popcorn a few weeks ago at the movies and all my lips swelled up so havent touched salt since.
This was the first time in nearly 2 years that I went anywhere near salt and 6 weeks Post RAI.
I still eat the same foods I ate before RAI and found it works well.
I know here in the US we don't eat grams of chicken but, ounces.

Fish and seafood are the highest containing foods and should be avoided at all costs.
This is from when they are grown in the market gardens and the fertiliser used on them.
Did you know that Bananas contain gases?
My son worked in a banan factory where they sprayed the bananas with gas to 'ripen' them.
A lot dont know that.
The same goes for other fruits and vegetables unless home grown.
There was a big write up here in Oz saying that by the time you buiy apples from a supermarket...they are 26 days old!
It opened my eyes a lot.
I can tell when I have eaten something I shouldn't have had it, my heart rate goes up for a few hours. It's not as bad as before, but I will mark that food item down on the no-no lis or just not have as often!
Look for a list on the thyca.org on low iodine diet: http://www.thyca.org/rai.htm#diet
For some people, flax seed oil (or grinding the seeds) are a better choice than fish oils. Some fish oils can make one hypER.
I once read a news article that washing bananas on the outside before peeling it is a wise thing to do.
Take care... :-)
I was told not to worry about the Diet really by my Endo that it really doesnt make that much differnece as long as you dont add alot of the Iodined Salt! Nes Topic Poss.
Opinions here will be interesting
Let us know what do you eat?
Again salt is not the culpret it is salt that is fortified with iodine.
Some individuals will be more sensative to different levels of iodine then others.
For me the benifits of eating fish out weigh the risk.

The only organ in your body while hyper that is HUNGRY for IODINE is the THYROID.
Eating fish/tuna/seafood will continue to keep you Hyper or you will be on a see-saw of hypo/hyper.
Its my personal opinion that once Euthroid theres plenty of time to fit fish into your diet.
And yes...most fertilisers now contain iodised salt or iodine so you get enough without really adding more.
If you are really ill with hyperthroidism and want remission , you will give up anything associated with iodine.
Thats my personal opinion.
I wash all my fruit and vegies under the tap as I know the bugs and creepy crawleys that go through them while they are stored in grocery fridges lol.
Opps I shouldnt have said that lol.
Kelly stay off the fish family for a while until your levels are normal then go for it girl! lol
Once again a great take on the subject. I really can't think of never eating seafood again (I live here on the Gulf Coast) but you put it into perspective.
Thanks,
Daisy
I live in sunny Australia ...the old classic 'shrimp on the barby ' country.
I miss it but I would do anything to avoid the hell it brings from excessive iodine.
One day.......
One day I will eat seafood again...that will be my reward lol :)
Debs
He adjusted to my foods, I adjusted to his.
We worked together and havent changed it since I had RAI.
Fresh fruit, vegetables, lean meat and chicken.
He can have fish, I cant.
I can have sugar, he cant.
Thats the only difference.
Debs
My diabetes is much more limiting. And Deb, it's not sugar we have to avoid, it's carbohydrates, which is why we have to be careful of potatoes, pastas, fruits, etc.
