" I'm worried about this, too. I am allergic to Methimazole, and got a low blood count and infection with PTU. I have TED symptoms, so they don't want to do RAI...so the only options I'm left with are thyroidectomy and letting nature take its course. Thyroid diseases suck. A lot. "

" I was reading today about this new breakthrough in treating hyper. Its call thyroid embolism. Its where they cut off the blood supply to the thyroid for total or partial destruction. Apparently they have had great success and the study patients had full recovery with no side effects. I cant remember the exact stats but I know they were very good. Just google hyperthyroidism breakthroughs...thats how I found it "

" Thanks, Dairytech! I can't tell you how worried I have been. I need to be more proactive about this disease and look more stuff up. I keep expecting my Endo to bring stuff up, but she never brought up thyroid embolism. "

" Wow. It is very interesting to see how technology is coming up with different treatments for things. This embolism thing you have read about is similar to a newer treatment for uterine fibroids. They cut off the blood supply to the fibroid in hopes of shrinking it. "

" I went looking for the article that I read the other day but couldnt find it. But I did find the Medical news letter of the first person to officially get the operation in North America. It was done in Calgary. Just google Pioneering New Thyroid Treatment. Im going to keep hunting around until I find the one I was reading the other day because it was the actual case study and its findings. I wish I paid closer attention to it. "
