FINALLY! My husband just left to pick up my brand new Methimazole medication. I saw my endo this past Monday..had bloodwork . Do not know my numbers (they are in the mail) kicked myself for not asking as soon as I hung up..waiting for them to call me back.

I have been reading here about the drug. Its a low dose of 10mg. I am glad, happy, and scared big time. They will be monitoring me closely. I did have a blood test the first appt I met the endo. and I know there was some test for the liver.

Taking 20mg twice daily of Prednisone for 6 days and my swelling has disappeared. My eyes are steered in crazy directions, but I am almost surprised that I still see double they feel so good.

I am so grateful to be able to have use of this forum.

Keep your fingers crossed

" Good...! :-) Remember to take the MMI in divided doses of two or three times per day. It will help with the lessening of yo-yoing hypER/hypO through out the day.

" I have taken the Methimazole, and the PTU for graves. No significant problems with either ! Agree with mmztcass best to take Methimazole in divided doses twice a day. (5mg in am, 5mg in pm) twelve hours apart works well to control the symptoms. Both meds have worked well for me and I am reaching another remission after just 3 months on Methimazole.

While there are side effects to these drugs, they are Rare. Rash seems to be most common, usually showing up in the 3rd week of treatment, but even that is like less than 1 in 10 people. "
