I was diagnosed with Graves on Friday and told I was hyper (did not get the bloodwork results b/c doc called me on the phone) I need to know does anyone with Graves feel like they have been hit by a truck add nausea and then a headache. Yesterday at work I felt like I was drugged or hand a really bad hangover. I was very shakey, cme home and had to sleep . I slept from 6:02 P.M til abouut 4:30 A.M. (Get up for work at 5 so normal wake -up time ) It seems ass though this pattern is happening more often. I also have a sensation that something is constricting around my neck. It feels like I have on a tight turtleneack but I really am wearing a v-neck. Am I crazy? Is this Graves?
Any answer would greatly be appreciated . Posted on 11/04/09, 04:11 pm |

Yes , everyone has different symptoms with Graves. You need to get copies of your labs to see how high your thyroid hormones are. I could not sleep with it, had a rapid heart beat, lost some weight and felt very racy,especially after I ate, which I was hungry in a hour again! How was it setermined you have Graves, an uptake scan a TSI test?These confirm Graves but really only a TSI is needed.

yeah, that's kinda how graves' is with some people. i used to have horrible hunger problems, i would plan my life around my next meal, i'd sleep all the time, i had heart palpitations, my hands were shaky, is your neck swollen at all? that may account for the constricting feeling, before i had my surgery i couldn't stand to have anything around my neck. i felt like i hadn't slept at all when i slept at least 10 hours, i wouldn't get up any earlier than like...10. once you get on the right meds you'll feel better.

Thanks everyone you've all been a great help. So many people say to me you can't have Graves because you are heavy and are hardly ever hyper

That's why I don't discuss my thyroid problem unless it's necessary...! :-( I have Rheumatoid Arthritis which is quite visable because I show joint disfigurements as well as I get about with my scooter or a wheelchair. People will come up to me and ask if I take RA drugs, or vitamins and supplements for it. Then I am told I am taking the 'wrong' things when I try to explain.
Oh well...! {{{hugs}}}

By the time I got diagnosed I had lost weight due to so much nausea that I was puking after every meal, practically. I shook so bad I couldn't draw, and I was a menace with a soldering iron. I also had the choking constriction sensation in my throat.
My endo says I am classic Graves. What helped me was phenergan for the nausea. It really helped. I had 12.5mg supp, that I broke in half to keep from sleeping so much. The beta blocker I got, Atenolol, really helped the shaking thing. You're definitely not crazy at all!

I was diagnosed with Graves' two weeks ago. Have not been to a specialist because my primary feels he can treat it. I will be going back to primary on Monday. I'm started to get what I call "spells", palpatations, hands temble, wicked headache, and my body temp rises. I'm always so tired.

Christine,
Al lot of Primary car doctors can and do treat people with Graves. Just like other doctors some are goo and others are not. Just make sure that he run your FreeT3 and Free T4 thyroid tests. Get copies of you r labs and if you are taking ATD's to break the dose up in 2 or 3 doses. You can bring your copy of the labs on here with reference ranges and we can help you understand them.. The key to remission is learning as much as you can about this disease and apply it to your self, also learning, what your labs are and what type and how often to take your meds as well. You will soon feel better once you are on ATD's. Hugs Angel
