" Hi Paula

Elaine Moore (fellow Graves' patient, retired medical technologist and author of several books, including "Graves' Disease - A Practical Guide) recommends taking acetyl-l-carnitine to help with
hyPER symptoms - she recommends a starting dose of 250 mg/day....some people might want to increase the dose after
a week or so.

You can visit her website www.elaine-moore.com for more
info....and info is available on Google as well.

I've taken 500 mg/day whenever my MMI dose was lowered 'cuz I'd have transient hyPER symptoms - it works!

Good luck to you! "

" Just one thing, Paula.....most of your symptoms do sound hyPER but the dry, itchy skin confuses me - that is usually a hyPO symptom.

Now, if your levels have been fluctuating, that could very well be the reason for the combination of hyPER and hyPO symptoms.

If you aren't dividing your MMI dose, you might want to start doing that - at least dividing your dose into 2/day.

MMI has a half-life that is too short to provide effective 24-hr coverage....splitting the dose will help you from swinging hyPO/hyPER throughout the day. "

" cd3764 and PaulaDebra....I wouldnt worry about the dry itchy skin part. Even when I was at my hyper stage I suffered from dry skin. Ive had this problem most of my life although it did get worse when I was hypo. I find taking Evening Primrose and Omega 3.6.9 helps with the dry skin. Dont use lotions or creams for it ...it only makes things worse,,,use an oil based lotion. Big Hugs...Kathy "

" Hi Paula,

Acetyl-L-Carnitine, CoQ10, and Flaxseed Oil will all help to reduce hyperthyroid symptoms. L-Carnitine is probably the best one and they sell it at Target.

Please keep us posted on your progress! "
