I just found out I have grave's
tsh .019 t4 2.09 uptake 64% even. I throw those things out there because I am trying to gain some reference. I think my grave's is not very severe and I'm hoping to get off the medicine. the endo prescibed 10mg twice a day. so, 20mg. of mml. i haven't started it yet, though it is sitting next to me and i think i probably ought to. My fear is that once I start I won't know when my body doesn't really need it or when different things that I try actually work. I found an entry about supplements and i will try them. i also found suggestions for lemon balm, motherwort, and bugleweed on line. Have any of you tried any of these? What about diet? Am I to try to avoid foods with iodine. It doesn't matter how strict the diet is I was vegan for years and did only raw food for most of that. I just want to know how to take care of myself and not find myself deferring to a very nice endocrinologist who not only doesn't have time for me, but does not have a history in holistic healing or even an interest. to make a long story short, i'm scared. I hate being dependent on medicine. also, i did not lose weight nor did i overeat in any major way leading up to my diagnosis. i am about 50 lbs overweight and have been for about 10 years. how long could i have had graves disease for? do i dare think that i won't gain weight from the mml because i hadn't lost it before? What are the ranges for the TSH and T4? Is the T4 a Free T4?
I did the Lemonbalm and the Bugleweed for awhile then got extrememly hypER and ended up in the hospital with a suspected thyroid storm. I was then put on the MMI. Get a small notebook to record your dietary intake and find out which ones sets off your heart rate to make it go even higher. These are called triggers and will need to be avoided. I don't know how long you've had Graves' Disease. About 15% of the people with GD will find they gain weight instead of losing it. Try no more than two new vitamins/supplements per month and see how it affects your thyroid levels. Not all vits/supps are good and many can make a person even more hypER. Get a Free T3 test to go with the Free T4 and TSH every time. Lab at least every six weeks. When your thyroid levels of the Free Ts gets to the mid ranges, work with doctor to reduce the MMI (Methimazole) so you don't go hypO. {{{hugs}}}
