" Hey Mary....The anxiety could be from you not taking your meds like you should. Why would you skip a day. Your doc prescribed them for you with your baby in mind. I would think your anxiety would be way worse for the baby than the PTU. 40mg of PTU is a very low dose but probably just enough to keep your baby safe. I think you should re-think what your doing and talk it over with your doc. "

" I just had a very healthy little boy 10 days ago. In the first trimester I was taking up to 250 mg. of ptu a day. Please, DO NOT mess with your medication. It will do more harm to your baby than taking the meds in the first place. You don't want grave's acting up, releasing antibodies into your system--that could really harm your baby. Follow your doctor's advice in this case. If you are healthy during your pregnancy (as far as Grave's) it is unlikely that you will have thyroid storm or other complications. "

" Thyroid storm is from levels going high and not enough meds being taken/prescribed.
Take the meds as prescribed and voice your concerns with your Doctor.
You may be putting yourself and your baby at risk by skipping doses. "

" 250MG OF PTU WOW and i am scared of 40mg. The hepatisis necosis (mispelled) that u can get from taking ptu i have read up on alot and im so confused with it, i guess the question im trying to figure out is if u somehow get that liver problem or hepatisis necrosis how is it treated? can u get rid of it once the meds are stooped? Is their any symptoms? I been having a huige problem dealing with the meds i have numbness and it really makes me scared. I'm back to taking the meds everday hoping and praying that my thryoid burns itself out or umm i go into remission somehow cause i don't want to damage my chidl in any way and i know PTU is not safe during pregnancy i read up enough but of course neither is graves disease. " Marysmum

I have had the liver enzymes rise very high on anti-thyroid meds but they have to be in the thousands to be of any risk.
They also settle down too once the meds are stopped.
The numbness could be from anxiety as I get tingling and numbness when I am very stressed but also get it checked by your Doctor.
As Kathy asked...where is the numbness? "

" Speaking about increased liver enzymes... before pregnancy I had that problem too. I couldn't take more than 100mg of ptu without my enzymes going up--I took herbs to help the liver. While pregnant, I couldn't take the herbs, but 250 mg didn't even bother my liver. Strange. I've also had my son's bloodwork (tsh, tsi, and free t4) done twice in the past week. The first set of tests came back good and I'm still waiting on the second. My anti-thyroid antibodies were always negative, even before pregnancy, so I think that's what has helped my son to be healthier too. Please try not to worry about 40 mg, that's very, very little and should not do any harm. "

" I have the numbness everywhere but usually in my hands leggz feet and sometimes face, i read that ptu can cause numbness but im just scared thats a sign of that liver problem this is my second day of taking the meds as precribed and im still so worried im just want to hurry up with this pregnancy so the baby can come out healthy and this be over. DID anyone have a child while being on meds and how did it turn out? did anyone have a thryoid storm while in labor?
should i ask for a c section so the baby isn';t stress on my body and im able to tolerate it better so i don't have a thryoid storm? "

" Mary...if you take your meds as prescribed you wont have a thyroid storm. Your doc will be taking a very close look at your blood levels and will make the adjustments accordingly. Also, I had that same numbness that you described, once the meds got into my system it went away. Stay on your meds as prescribed and you shouldnt have any problems your doc cant handle. I think your putting yourself through unnecessary stress....I know I know...easier said than done. Try to relax and trust your in good hands. At the moment its not just you...Kathy "

" Mary
You are worrying needlessly.
Thyroid storm is when your levels are too high and if this occurs then they give you adrenaline by imjection and also propanonol (Inderal) a beta blocker by injection too that slows the heart down drmatically within seconds.
I dont see why you shouldnt have a normal birth unless there is a reason you cant.
I have a heart condition Marysmum and had 3 children and they sure wasnt short labours lol.
They went 15 hours, 12 hours and 8 hours.
Stop worrying....take your meds as you are supposed too and do what the Doctor says.

You are putting yourself and baby at risk by NOT taking the meds and most of the PTU that you are taking would come out with yr urine or faeces (sorry to be blunt lol).
Docs have you on it as a precautionary measure so that your levels DONT go high.

We have been through all this before and yet you say you are just starting meds.
I thought you was already on PTU a few months ago?
Please dont stop them without seeing your Doctor.
We all love you and want you to have a healthy baby xxx "
