My day at rehab

Yesterday my mother and i went out to the rehab that my daughter is staying at. We had a wonderful day going to classes with my daughter and other addicts and their families. My daughter has never looked better. She has been clean for 5 months now and this is the first time shes stayed on her bipolar meds for any length of time. The rehab program is only 4 weeks with 6 months of weekly aftercare classes for the addict and family. This is the first time shes been to rehab and i'm very hopeful. She is such a different girl now that shes on her meds, i haven't seen her like this since she was pregnant with gs. They do say that women that are bipolar are more stable when they are pregnant, but they don't know why this is. It is so nice to have some positive things happening in our lives. It was good to talk with other families and learn about their experiences and some were very similar to ours, with the mental illness aspect in their loved ones lives too. I had my daughter to many health care professionals over the years trying to figure out what was wrong with her to no avail, there is still such a stigma associated with mental illness. I just wanted to share some of my good news with everyone.

" I will pray that your daughter stays on the course she is on. I too have a daughter that is bipolar and an addict. She refuses to stay on meds. I have begged and begged her to go to rehab. She flat out refuses. Would rather live in the streets. When she has no money to party she begs to come live with us. I have refused her over and over. She is only allowed to come with us if she attends her parenting classes and checks into rehab. I wonder how long we will have to wait befor she sees the light. "

" MawMaw thank you for the prayers and i will also pray for your daughter. Its really hard to know what they will have to go through before enough is enough, and they are ready to change things. "
