Had gout since 19. Has been getting progressively worse. Especially the last 5 or so years. I cannot watch TV during some attacks due the vibration from the voices on the TV hurting the affected joint. I have pretty much had gout anywhere and everywhere. I had a surgery on my small toe due to tophi buildup but now the little toe is close to the same size as my big toe. I use Colchicine when I have a flare up. The normal dosage does nothing for me so I have to take 3-4 an hour to eliminate the uric acid. My bloodwork normally shows my uric acid level being around 12-13. I was in bed for 80 total days last year with gout. I tell people it is like dropping a 100 pound dumbbell on your foot only the pain never seems to go away. I have also had uric acid kidney stones....NOT FUN!!

What do you do for gout??

" Colchicine my friend....I use to get it ALOT...40-50 days a year for 2 years. Through a diet journal discovered it was MONSTER energy drinks that were causing it! Can pretty much eat anything now but I stay away from energy drinks and avoid orange juice...pretty acidic.

Otherwise at 2:37 am I'd cry and think about cutting my foot off...but then figured I'd just get an agitated stump with the gout then! I had that fiend for 2 weeks once...pain was at the "pull a sheet over the foot and pass out from pain stage"

That's all the advice I can give you ...have been gout free for 2 years...so it can happen! "
