Any women here with gout?

I am wondering if there are any women here that might be having gout? I developed high uric acid levels about 3 months ago, and complained of joint pain. Currently I am on allopurinol..and it has dropped my levels to 4.4
Recently I read that some post menopausal women fall victim to this disease too.
Funny thing, I am not a red meat eater, gravy eater or drinker. So I am thinking the reduced hormones must be a factor in my disease?

" I've had gout for two years now. Had to diagnose myself. I don't eat any red meats (liver is dangerous), beans, most nuts, or fish. I am on a water pill (Hydrochlorothiazide) for high blood pressure. Water pills will cause Gout. "

" I developed gout in left "pointer" finger (and possibly had warning signs in feet / ankles / knees before then). It is heridtary (sp) - my grandmother had it. It is the one thing that my parents have not blamed being overweight on. Funny thing is I wasn't really eating red meat (even though I love it so). I was eating CHICKEN. I have found when I eat lots of chicken - it starts to flare up. Go figure. Am on 300mg allopurinol.

Here is the screwy part - gout is from having too much protein (and there are many ways to get it besides red meat) and low carbs - my pc dr said to reduce protein and add more carbs.. I have had GBP surgery and am required to have high protein and low carbs.

When I feel it starting to flare up I eat more carbs - its seems to help. Can't take ibuprophen (due to it being NSAIDS which is a big no-no for anyone who has had GBP surgery). So just pop extra strength tylenol (more than the allowed dosage) and everyone around me stays clear of me and my mood swings. "

" I believe gout can be more be seen to man compare to woman. Still you have to be careful what you are eating that might trigger you for gout. Let's watch out diet and eat more healthy foods.. "

" I was just diagnosed with gout today. I already had RA. My dad has gout so I am pretty sure I inherited it. I was given a prescription for allopurinol so we shall see how that goes. "

" Hi,
I just arrived here on this forum and am saddened to read of so many people in such pain. I am having amazing results with an herb I just learned about and it may help many of you as well.
Yerba Mansa has the specific effect of lowering uric acid levels as described by Michael Moore in his Medicinal Plants of the Desert and Canyon West. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anemopsis
The pain in my feet was gone in less than a week. I have a gouty big toe from 2008 and my feet get paiinful to walk on at night after I sit for awhile without getteng up. The VA said I had crystals in my urine and they couildn't do much for the gout.
The yerba mansa comes from takeherb.com for 36$ a pound and is wildcrafted by Starwest Botanicals. I grind the root and fill OO gelcaps with the powder.
I take 2 caps 3 times a day and only rarely have any pain in my feet at all now.
I'm curious to know if anyone else has had such good results with Yerba Mansa? I hope others try it and report on their experiences here.
I think herbs are way of the future as we learn again what the ancients already knew.
As the threat of antibiotic resistant illnesses approaches, everyone here would be wise to also learn of the healing properties of Osha Root, an herb that kills off what antibiotics can't. I've used Osha Root now for 30 years to stay healthy without any allopathic medicine.
I'll decend my soapbox now but these herbs are something I could preach about. I think they are that important for us and especially more so now.
Questions?
Be well,
David "
