This really worked well. The Doctor told me that the secret is to stop taking it when you start getting stomach problems from it. Basically that means it has done its job and there is now excess in your system. It is a poison in your system that is destroyed in the process of taking care of the uric acid crystals.
Or that is how I remember it and sure enough the pain goes away the same time the stomach symptoms come. It has - thank goodness - been a few years now since I had my last acute attack.

yes, if you know you are eating or drinking something that may bring on an attack you can take it to prevent the attack - or during until the big flush happens. It all seems diet now: no meat or alchohol... I'm uisng lemon juice as a liver cleanse & clay to keep things alkoline... & alopurinal... but still get attacks on occasion...

Colchicine messed my kidneys up. Doctor changed my medicine to allopurinol. I also take Indomethacin.

I'm on diuretics for congestive heart failure, and according to my Dr, this is whats triggering my gout attacks,so about two weeks ago she told me to cut my diuretic meds in half, and start taking allopurinol, turned out this isn't working and gout is back big time, so I'm back on colchine twice daily, its slightly better now but still painful, watching my diet, no alcohol, watching purine foods, don't know what else to do, do you think an arthritis doctor would be more helpful? Not on the allopurinol at this time.

colchicine has worked to stave off minor attacks but the last attack I had in my ankle it was no use for.

I had a bad time with gout until I saw a doctor of joint disease. She explained that I need to look at my intake of foods on a 24 hour period, so my intake of high purine foods would not surpas my body's abilites to pass it out of my system. This does work for me, may not for you.
O'douls, shrimp, hotdogs are the worst foods for my gout, however those are my weakness. I have learned how to control my intake and have been doing well so far. Before this I would have an attack monthly and each attack lasting for about three weeks. As for colchicin, it took my body years to be able to take it and have no ill affects from it.
