I have been eating cream of chicken soup (strained so there are no chunks) and watered down mash potatoes for the last month since choking on steak, realizing I had this goiter, and an enlarged thyroid. Looking back pictures, I realized that I had the goiter longer than I knew and I was eating fine! Yay! Stepped on the scale yesterday and weighed in at 115... stepped on the scale this morning and weighed in at 116!!! Ya know you weigh less in the morning so I'll weigh myself again tonight. Thought I'd write my weight down so I can look back at it. Prior to the thyroid storm, I weighed in at 128 and was happy. Was actually trying to gain 5 pounds. lol. In the 2 weeks prior to the storm as I went downhill, I was at 112 pounds on the day I was admitted. On the day I was discharged, I was still at 112 pounds (4 days later). I am back and not doing real well. Gary my sixteen year old son came to live with me on May 4th and life has ceased to be livable. First off he gave the car keys to an acquaintance and they wrecked my beautiful car that I had paid over 3000 on and still had a little more to pay on. Hey there,
I've been a little out of the loop lately - haven't been feeling well up until a few days ago. Not sure why, just been feeling really off (kind of like how you feel right before you get the flu). As I have already stated I feel like crap and this religion class is getting on my nerves as is my friend K. Well it was Hashimoto's all along. Its what i thought I have had for 2 years. At least I know. now I dont know what to do or expect from here. Will the thyroidectomy totally make hashimoto's go away? I must do some reasearch, and ask questions

Had surgery (thyroidectomy) on non other than
april fools day. Stayed in hospital until friday morning. Done well I suppose. Not dure what I a supposed to feel like. So, I guess I am good.
If anyone has some suggestions , or a story for comparison, please let me know. I feel alone, and I know I'm not

Goiter Information
A goitre (or goiter), also called a bronchocele, is a swelling in the neck (just below adam's apple or larynx) due to an enlarged thyroid gland. They are classified in different ways: A "diffuse goitre" is a goitre that has spread through all of the thyroid (and is contrasted with a "simple goitre", "single thyroid nodule" and "multinodular goitre"; a "Toxic goitre" refers to goitre deriving from inflammation, neoplasm, or malfunction of the thyroid, while "nontoxic goitre" refers to all other types (such as that caused by lithium or an autoimmune reaction.)
The most common cause for goitre in the world is iodine deficiency, which causes goitre in a widespread way in an iodine deficient population. This is commonly called endemic goitre. It is curable by mass food-supplementation with iodine (in the form of iodide or iodate), and today remains a problem only in the least affluent countries which lack economic resources to fortify foods with iodine as part of public health programs.
Iodine is necessary for the synthesis of the thyroid hormones triiodothyronine and thyroxine (T3 and T4). In conditions producing endemic goitre, when iodine is not available, these hormones cannot be made. In response to low thyroid hormones, the pituitary gland releases thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). Thyroid stimulating hormone acts to increase synthesis of T3 and T4, but in excess it also causes the thyroid gland to grow in size as a type of compensation.
Goitre is more common among women, but this includes the many types of goitre caused by autoimmune problems, and not only those caused by simple lack of iodine.
Treatment for goitre may not be necessary if the goitre is not caused by disease and is small. Removal of the goitre may be necessary if it causes difficulty with breathing or swallowing. But removal of certain types of diffuse goitre mentioned above will result in removing the entire thyroid as well. The complete removal of the thyroid gland destroys the body's ability to produce thyroid hormone. In this case, supplements of oral thyroid hormone are necessary to avoid harm from hypothyroidism.
