I've only known that I am hypothyroid for about 3 weeks now. My ob-gyn put me on 75 mcg of Unithroid because I hadn't had my "monthly visitor" all year (which is disturbing when it's May) and because my TSH was 24.6. The second day I took the pill, my throat swelled up and I had trouble swallowing and a bit of trouble breathing. The doctor told me to stop taking it immediately. After I stopped taking the pills I spent an entire day thirsty like you wouldn't believe and another day throwing up.
When I went to see my doctor, I showed him pictures of my "throat swelling" which had mostly receded but remained a bit on one side. He set me up with an appointment to an endocrinologist for next week with a note that said "Goiter. TSH24" Has this happened to anyone else? Everyone I've asked has been incredulous. (Pharmacists.) They tell me that Unithroid is supposed to *reduce* goiters, not cause them.... Posted on 07/02/08, 02:07 pm |
