Hello, I'm new here!! I can barely see the computer screen, but anyways..
Does any1 here have Glaucoma from taking Topamax?? That is how I got it, & I am wondering what your experiences may be with it, how much time it took you to get better etc. Does anybody know if there is a class action suit against Topamax that people are sueing because they got Glaucoma?? You can post here or preferably send me a private msg. Thanks!! =] HAGD!!

" Sometimes we have *no clue* that is so true! And 1 attorney told me I can't sue because Glaucoma is listed as 1 of Topamax's side effects....so is "suicidal ideation" so if your family member or loved one killed themselves, by the same reasoning, you wouldn't be able to do anything either. It's terrible, that med should be black boxed!!! I am taking Timorol (sp?) & Prednisone drops twice a day, will probably be on that for awhile, for the next 3 weeks at least anyways. Being fully dialated all of the time isn't exactly my idea of how I was planning to celebrate the holidays, but I'm thankful & positive at least that I didn't hopefully permanently do any damage to the optic nerve. How did you contract Glaucoma? Did you have surgery? I noticed that the tv ad for Prestiq now mentions Glaucoma as a side effect, I hope it's not the "designer disease" of the 2010's ughh that would not be good. I'm just extremely blessed that hopefully I can have Lasik after all is said & done. Do people take things like hydrocodone for Glaucoma??? "

" hydrocodone is a narcotic painkiller, so I can't imagine how or why this would be prescribed for glaucoma.

I am also taking Timolol to manage my glaucoma. I have been in a risk category for glaucoma my entire life, predisposed to it because of genetic disability, and also because of seven different eye surgeries as a child.

In terms of any potential lawsuit, unfortunately, the company that makes Topomax would be able to use the defense of primary assumption of risk. That means, they have identified to their customers that glaucoma could occur if Topomax is taken. A patient who takes Topomax voluntarily assumes the risk of the knwn and identifed side effect. Because of that, the duty of care owed to the patient by the maker of Topomax is lessened, and so any potential legal claim for liability against the company would be barred.

Did your doctor advise you that glaucoma was a possible side effect of taking Topomax? "
