I switched from Timolol, which gave me headaches, to TravatanZ, and I'm not getting headaches anymore, but I am experiencing other side effects like eye redness, itching and blurred vision. Initially I was using the drops every night and the side effects seem to get progressively more severe, so now I'm experimenting with using the drops every other night. So far, the side effects have abated somewhat, but I still get the redness and itching and blurring, but not as severely. My opthomologist suggested I might want to switch to Alphagan if I can't tolerate the TravatanZ. But the local pharmacies want $85 for a 5 ml. bottle of the stuff. The generic which I can get from WalMart is $32. Better, but certainly not cheap. Anybody had experience with these meds? Thanks, Sam

I am 34 and was diagnosed about 3 months ago. I have been using TravatanZ about 2 months. The pressures in my eyes have dropped from 12/13 to 9/10 so my doctor is happy. I mentioned to her some increased sensitivity to light and she said that my eyes are very dry and I need to get that fixed first before we determine it's the TravatanZ. I do notice redness when I first put the drops in at night, but the next day it is gone.

SaraBlankley: Thanks for responding to my post. I thought it interesting that you are being treated for glaucoma with the 12/13 pressure readings. My pressure is in the 20/30 range. And I was under the impression that anything under 20 was acceptable. Were there other conditions that prompted your MD to recommend the drops? Thanks, Sam

I am on Travatan Z for glacoma. This is the third medicine I have been on. My eyes do itch, but I have allergies alot. This medicine is doing great on my eye pressure. I went to doctor appt. this pass Friday and eye pressure and scan of my eyes was excellent. Doctor said he caught my glacoma really early. I hope your eyes do well and the med helps!

Thanks for the feedback. The issues I was having with Travatan were so annoying I had to find another medication. My eye doctor recommended Alphagan. It's very expensive, but I was able to get the generic for cheap from the VA. It seems to be working as my pressure is down from 36 to 24. And aside from very minor irritation I don't seem to be having the itching problem I had with the Travatan.
