LASER SURGERY

I was diagnosed with glaucoma about 4 years ago, and was using xlatan every night for the eye pressure.
I recently switched doctors, and am so happy I did!! He did laser surgery on both eyes to open the drainage that allows the fluid to flow out of the eye. No more eye drops!!!! He told me this can last for 5-10 years. Ask your doctors about it. It was painless and took about 10 minutes for each eye. No prep, and was able to drive myself. My pressures have dropped from the mid 20's to 16 and 18. Not bad for i month post surgery. I would recommend this to any of you. I am glad I could share this

" Hi. I agree with you. I had to have laser surgery on my right eye 2x and 1x on the left to release the pressures. I had been cleared of glaucoma or high pressures 2 years prior to an accident I was in last March where I hit my head hard on a metal bus front. As a result of the concussion and within 3 weeks, the eye pain became very painful so off to the eye doctor I went and much to my surprise, the pressures were climbing higher each day. I had the right done lasered 2x in 1 week because the opening kept closing up. The brain didn't have any other way of draining from the swelling but could have caused me quick blindness and not reversable.

Thanks for sharing. "

" I had SLT (laser) treatment to my left affected eye and my pressure lowered by three points to 13, which is where the specialist wants it. Glad I had it! "

" Hello people on this 'topic'. I sent 2
individual messages but wanted to place a
message here in case other people come to
read about this topic.
Two wks. ago I was told I'd need to have
laser surgery because I'd developed narrow
angle glau. and it had to be done now.
Last Tues. I had one eye done. It
went well overall and I've recovered
quickly. Like the other 2 members who
reported positive results, I want to
add on to that. The procedure's just been
around for a few yrs. I'm not a huge
fan of modern medicine, but there are
life saving technologies for which I'm
totally grateful...I find it so
amazing... "

" Just wanted to say that today was my second follow-up since laser treatment. My pressure is ideal at 13! The laser was done seven months ago. I had an OCT test also, and the eyes remain stable. Next visit, four months hence, will have another visual field. I'm very pleased, especially since my pressure when diagnosed was as high as 26. "

" Hi all!

I've recently posted a topic on glaucoma and pregnancy. I'm trying to conceive yet my eye doctors suggest me to use eye drops. I'm trying to avoid it because I know the side effects could only do harm to an unborn fetus.

I'm diagnosed with open angle glaucoma and have borderline IOP, highest usually 20, 20. My visual field tests do show that I have some vision loss, but I'm not sure if I'm considered to have "normal tension glaucoma". I hope not....

I'm wondering if I could have a laser surgery also. For those who have done the surgery, would you tell me if your glaucoma is opened or closed angle? I believe that laser surgery is only effective for closed angle glaucoma?

And how does the surgery feel? Was it a scary experience?

Thanks! "

" Hi Jasmine, this is Sandy I am the one who posted on this first. I really don't know if I had open or closed angle . I can tell you I didn't feel a thing during the laser surgery. The questions you are asking you need to ask your doctor. Does he know you are pregnant?? I know the first time I used the eye drops I couldn't walk a straight line the next morning, and I couldn't drive. Made me so dizzy, so I would imagine they would hurt a baby. Good luck to you sandy "
