I have glaucoma and optic neuralgia. It seems I've had it around 5yrs. My acuity is 20\20 and 20\30 in my rt and lt eyes. My problem is I can't see well. I used to read constantly, I can't read anymore. I thought if your acuity was perfect, you could see anything. Does anyone else have this problem? Can someone explain this to me?

" visual acuity, is just a measure of what you can see, compared to a normal person.

For example, I have 20/300, which means in laymen terms "what I see at 20 ft, you see at 300 with the same degree of clarity".

to break that down into something people can relate to, 20/300 = 10/150 = 1/15 = 6 inches / 7.5 feet, so someone with 20/20 would have to sit 7 feet 5 inches away from the computer to see the same size print as I would at 6 inches. This is why I use text-to-speech software, hehe, cuz the screen is hard to see 8 feet away, even with teeny bobber eagle eyes. LOL

Of course, this is just comparing what you can see on an eye chart in the doctors office at a distance. Doctors eye charts are usually on white backgrounds with bright bold black letters, making them easy to see especially when the lights are out.

It sounds to me like, if your having trouble reading, and can read the eye chart at 20/20 or close to it, then this tells me your becoming near sighted, and the eye doctor may have to give you some contacts or bifocals to correct your near sight. Near sight and far sight are usually 2 different readings. Thats where the terms "near sighted" and "far sighted" come into play.

your probably becoming far sighted, which means you can see better far away then close up, which means you need bifocals or trifocals. Far sighted people, usually have to hold a book further back to see clearly. Try to hold a book at different distances, near and far, to see which way you can see better, but you should definitely discuss this with your eye doctor. Tell him exactally what your having trouble seeing, bring in an example, and from there, he can help you find a solution. He doesn't understand what your having trouble with if you don't bring in an example. "

" Try drinking 16oz of carrot juice per day. 8oz in the morning and 8oz in the evening.
Eat carrots, raspberries, and blackberries too. Try it for 4 weeks. "
