Hey everyone my name is Shannon im 22. I havent been diagnoised with Glaucoma, but they say that iam at risk because my nerves in my eyes are large and they have to keep seeing me. Ive been having this problem with my eyes I dont know if this has to do with glaucoma or what, but i cant seem to find help anywhere! Heres how it started my doctor prescribed me zoloft after i had my daughter for anxiety, whenever i started taking it I started having weird eye things going on like whenever i woke up I looked at my dart board and whenever I looked away I could see the outline of the dartboard moving in different areas. I told my doctor and he said he didnt know. I took the zoloft for a month then i weaned off it because of this eye thing. Now that im off it Im still having the same problem and ive been off the zoloft for a month now. What happens now is whenever I wake up I see brightness around things that i have been looking at and its like brightness around the windows and the tv and if i blink that doesnt help its still there. It lasts for about 3 or 4 seconds. I know this is hard to explain, but everything is like outlines and i still see like the outline of the window whenever i look around and its like bright like a light. Its almost like it just does to things that are bright like if im in a dark room and i look at something bright and i look away theres the brightness of it fallowing along the walls or whatever! Im sorry this is long and its hard to explain! But if someone could PLEASE help me i would really appreciate it because this is getting really frustrating and i dont know if i should go to my eye doctor or not. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about what you've been going through. My son was on an allergy medication that did strange things to his eyes. It only got better after we stopped the medication. It took 6 months to completely clear out and give him clear vision again. Since you are in Colorado I recommend that you see Dr. James Conahan (303) 346-8400. He is voted in Best of Best doctors in opthamology. I've seen him, he is very thorough. If you're worried about the possibility of glaucoma, go see Dr. Randy Craven (best glaucoma specialist in Denver) at (303) 797-1900. They will help you find out what is wrong. Best of luck! AnnNTG.

Thank you for the help! Did your son have the same thing I did where he saw brightness whenever he looked at something and closed his eyes?
Thank you for the numbers I will try to give them a call!

Hi Shannon,
I'm not a doctor, but thankfully my sister is an opthamologist so I've asked her a lot of questions. I think some medication can effect the eyes in different ways. My son had difficulty with close and far vision, and kept bumping into walls. I'm thankful it wasn't permanent. I, however have been diagnosed with Normal Tension Glaucoma. Was told I was too young for it. I've seen the 2 specialists I mentioned before. They are very good and will be able to find out what is wrong with you. Are you seeing halos? Do you have plain old astigmatism? I do, and I see halos around lights if I don't have my glasses on. As for the glaucoma - it has made me sensitive to bright lights. I see shadows for several minutes after being exposed to bright light. Anyway, glaucoma is very rare for your age so hopefully it is some other treatable condition. It is worth seeing a really good doctor, otherwise you might get misdiagnosed. Don't take chances with your eyes. Good luck!

Thank you! I talked with my doctor who perscribed me the zoloft and he told me that the zoloft is probably out of my system and zoloft usually doesnt effect your eyes! Im hoping that he is wrong and that this is what its from. I have seen halos around lights before. I do see shadows or bright lights in dark rooms after looking at something bright and then looking away. Its really worrying me, its almost like one day i have and the next i dont! Its very strange.

Hi,
I just wanted to say that a proper cleanse would be good for your system. I mean a proper detox. Drink more pure water and eat more glean leafy vegetables. Stop drinking coffee for a while and see how you go with your eyes. I also had a lot of problems with my eyes and I was looking for alternative ways of curing my vision. To tell you the truth I'm more happy to try new things that for sure don't harm my eyes like drags or surgery do. A few months ago I found some program that really helped me a lot. It explains a lot how food effects our eyes and also how to do a proper cleanse. The program has beautiful and simple eye exercises and also some good exercises for the whole body (to make your blood circulate better etc). If you are interested google unleash your vision, and you will find it. Anyway try to drink more water and eat good food. All the best Joey

Shannon, if you google for zoloft and vision you'll see blurred vision/vision changes as side effects. The problem with doctors is that they only know about the common side effects. My son suffered with poor vision for 3 months before I decided to stop it to see if his vision improved. All 3 eye doctors he saw didn't think there was a connection until proof of improvement. I asked my sister about it and she said since it was listed as a possible side-effect by the manufacturer then someone did experience that problem. Some medications can cause glaucoma but may improve after stopping - I'm not certain about it. Anyway, I recommend you should first go and see Dr. Craven to check for glaucoma. If everything is fine, then see Dr. Conahan. A year before I was diagnosed, I saw an opthamologist who missed my glaucoma since it was in the early stages so you need to see an expert to rule it out. Don't take any chances with your eyes! The sooner you get treatment (if needed) the better. Good luck! AnnNTG

I went in to have a test done and they said that the test look great especially considering since I might have glaucoma. They want me to come in today so that they can look at my eyes. I figured out a better way to explain whats happening. Im having long lasting afterimages and sometimes they move around. To describe it better! They are checking to make sure that my eyes arent torn or something like that.

Hi Shannon, did they do a visual fields test on you? What kind of doctor did you see? What did they find out?
Best of luck, AnnNTG

I went to my optamolagist i think thats what they are called. They did a test where they blind folded one eye and had me look into this thing that had dots flying everywhere to check my side vision and they did it to bothe eyes they said that everything looked fine with that and that its good since i might have glaucoma. They said that they didnt think that zoloft would affect my eyes, but I did find online an entire message board where people complained about having the same exact thing im having from taking zoloft! I think the doctors are wrong! But im going back to the eye doc today just to be safe. I think what im having might not even have anything to do with my eyes but my brain so i might have to get a cat scan or MRI but i think all this is from zoloft well see what happens! Im really nervous about going in today though.
