Does anyone here have muslim parents? I ask because my friend does and he came out to his mom recently and she had a melt-down. In most Islamic contires, homosexuality is punishable by death. Can anyone share any sort advice for this situation?

I'm a Muslim and it's not true by punished to death. Anyone has their option to be gay or not, but every religion has different consequence, In Muslim, we do not allow gays however, because being straight, bi or gay is an option not a faith. And in Mulsim we are not allowed to be bi or gay. But Is THIS WRONG? no it's not.
Tell him he's normal, it' just a challenge he have in his life. It's like a game, our life has problem need to be solved, and in Islam we have to solve this one. I am not being contra with gay or lesbian, because I never saw someone from sexual oriental. I'm totally fine with their position. Now it's back to himself, because I have been handling some people with this situation. I know it's hard to be straight, but it's not impossible, if he still loves his religion, he will still love his God. And when someone loves their God it can break anything in front of them, that person will totally obey some stuff that God asked for. I really hope it helps. And please I have nothing against gay lesbian or bisexual. I love them too :)

Hi,
Actually, I am Muslim myself. So are my parents. Usually, Homosexuality is not allowed in Islam and in other countries, yes, it does end in death. But it all depends on the persons family life. So, while some Muslim parents will shun their child, others will try to help in "fixing" their child. It all depends.

If you wanted to you could get an english translatoin of the koran, or indeed read a bible.
It's the same story about soddom and gomorah and Lots' wife. In english a sod is a person who commits anal sex (sodomy). In arabic it's calle "Loti" my phonetics aren't great but that gets you the jist of it. In both religoins the act of homosexuality is forbidden, indeed it is also not permitted to commit sodomy with a woman (don't tell all those guys who do that to their GF to maintain her 'virginity til marriage thou' it might end them! In both religions (I may assume in the Jewish faith also?) it is considered a challenge to overcome with cellabacy or with conformity to a hetrosexual lifestyle. The modern day take in the western world of those matters greatly conflicts with the religious versions. My own take is that it's not physically healthy to put anything up one's bottom.

I am not a muslim, but unlike most Westerners, I do take an interest in the who, what, where, when and why of other cultures before I brand them all a stereotype. Islam, like Christianity has its darker and easily misinterpreted sacred texts, but both were written thousands of years ago.
Islam in its early conception was very tolerant, unlike Christian nations, then did not force conversion on those they conquered, they didn't ban other's beliefs, only demanded they respect theirs. Most 'Islamic Republics' pick and chose what parts of Islam to follow and which to disregard, if the Prophet could see some of them, he'd hang his head in shame. God is love, and love is sacred. All faiths no matter their creed value love, and this mother may have been raised to think a certain way, but at the end of the day it's a personal moral struggle. Religion is just a tool we use to magnify our own ignorance.
