hi everyone i have been diagnosed with 'mild' gastrits following an endoscopy after feeling the worse possibly i have ever felt in my life

i have had two severe episodes where follwing severe diareah

firstly i get constant and i mean constant nausea
trapped wind that would not move

tummy so tender i cant press or push on it
feeling that something is going to burst under ribs left hand side (worst at night)
no apetite due to constant nausea
when i did eat i felt full after 1 mouth full of food
pain in left hand side so bad i didnt sleep for 5 days
horrendous heart burn that gavsicon only worked for 15 minutes then i had to take again
incresaed heart rate i was tachycardic on the 2 occasions i was hospitilised

the symptoms appeared in that order both times and lasted for 3 to 4 weeks each time, and i felt so so ill. NOTHING and i mean nothing worked to relieve the symptoms.

I was on
2 types of anti nausea tablets
mebeverine
wind relief tablets
omeprazole
domperidone
pepermint capsules
codene for pain

at the moment i am symptom free although i have continued to take the omeprazole every other day at my doctors requests. However the 2 episodes of this illness happened 3 months apart and it lasted for 3-4 weeks each time. the 2nd episode happened while i had been taking omeprazole for 3 months so that didnt stop it from happening. Tablets that would normally work didnt the wind relief tablets had no effect on my trapped wind even though i took double the doses in sheer desperation. the mebeverine didnt stop the wind cramps, ....i couild go on and on....it was as if my body had no reaction to any of the drugs that were meant to be helping me. it was made no better or worse by certain food ...it was as if regardless it was going to go on and do what it wanted for as long as it needed to regardless of what i took.

i have been feeling well now for about a month and wondered if anyone has had similar experiences where they have felt ok then wham something similar has happened if so i would desperately like to hear from you

thanks everyone this is a great site

" I was just curious, have you ever been tested for Gastroparesis? It's where there's damage done to your vagus nerve in your stomach so it becomes lazy and it stops working--you end up throwing up, end up cramping, you vomit, get nauseated and have some of these symptoms that you mention. I also have gastroparesis and gastritis. Some of the symptoms you mention I have. I'm on domperidone myself but I'm off the omeprazole and am on nexium (perhaps you could ask your doctor to put you on this instead of the omeprazole?) instead two times a day. I take domperidone 4x's a day and am on nerve medication three times a day and a drug called bentyl to relieve stomach cramping. Bentyl is sort of related to the night shade family and it helps with the pain and cramping associated with gastritis and gastroparesis. I have problems where I vomit frequently either from nerves or when I am calm. I have issues when my gastroparesis acts up where I cannot have a regular bm for several days at a time and am in incredible pain. I am actually on disability now because I'm that bad (and was fired from my job because of it!). Sometimes the symptoms come and go depending... Somedays I am symptom free and other times I'm not... Like you, I was prescribed anti-nausea tablets for a while but found that they didn't work. I'm not allowed to take pain killers at home (it slows my digestion) and am only allowed them when I get bad enough and end up in the hospital (it's at this point that the pain is usually so severe that it hurts to touch my stomach, hurts to breathe, laugh, talk, or cough)... What else can I tell you about me? I found out I had gastroparesis and gastritis around mother's day of this year and have been living with it since then. I'm 25 years old and I have a slew of other medical conditions--high blood pressure, asthma, and a few other things I'm not going to list. The doctor's really don't know how my gastroparesis came about. At first my gastrointerologist said it was diabetic in nature, and it turned out he was wrong. My levels are normal range-- I am glucose intolerant but I do not have to take any medicine unless my levels get worse. Therefore, my doctor has concluded that my gastroparesis is idopathic--or of an unknown origin. Oddly enough my aunt on my father's side has the same thing I do.

The funny thing about this disorder or disorders is that they do tend to make you feel full quickly--I've noticed it myself--especially on bad days... I've learned if I don't want to get sick or feel sick to eat slowly and chew slowly that helps.

Anyhow, I hope this brings you some comfort. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. Please feel free to contact me if you wanted to talk any further ^_^ I wish you much luck and I'm so sorry that you have this. It's no fun at all, trust me, I understand what you're going through! "

" Yea that has gastroparesis written ALL OVER IT! There are a lot of gastroenterologists that are not that familiar with gastroparesis and just keep pushing acid reducers that do not work. I dealt with this over two years before they finally diagnosed me with gastroparesis. It would be a good idea to have the gastric emptying study and be sure to tell them to do the test with eggs and toast, NOT oatmeal. I passed the test a year ago because they administered the test with oatmeal, but I failed miserably when Shands re-administered the test using eggs and toast. I was prescribed antibiotics, which tore my stomach up even worse so I just started seeing a chinese medicine doctor, who is doing acupuncture and chinese herbs. We'll see how it goes! "

" Hi, I was just searching this site after another flare up of gastritis, although I haven't had any tests to confirm it actually is. My symptoms are different than others, so I am not sure. After periods of stress or sometimes antibiotics, I seem to start getting indigestion (which I don't normally) then after a night out after drinking alcohol and eating spicy food, the next day I get the most unbearable burning, followed by pain at the top of my stomach going through to my back, shortness of breath, don't know what to do with myself as nothing works, not pain killers, indigestion remedies nothing. It was a pain like no other and it has put me off eating and drinking, which I am finding really depressing as I'm always out for meals etc.

Anyway went back to the doctor, not really that interested, told me to take Omeperazole for a month and see if it calms down if not have to go for an endoscopy. How do I know if it has calmed down, if I don't eat anything spicy or drink any alcohol it will probably be much better, but for how long. I've already turned down lots of pre-arranged dates with my friends and fear I'm now getting depressed as well as stressed and I found before that stress definitely makes it worse. Really dreading an endoscopy was it as bad as it sounds?

I note you said you were hospitalised, was this because of your heart rate or the nausea or a combination. I don't get the nausea unless in the middle of an attack. "
