" I would contact your doc and see if the red wine is something that could have set things off this way. I'm also thinking that it could be kidney problems, from what you describe. I think your doc is the best one to answer your question. I hope you get some answers soon.

" Hi yorkyboy Dave,we are being a bit optimistic with our gastritis. Ive been trying foods I shouldn,t have and Ive got bad pain again. You should keep off the wine. I had some Chinese food and its kicked it off. Its so hard to stay off our favourite food and drink but we have to. Have you got pain in the left base of your back? I used to get kidney pain there. That is a bad pain too and it was an infection with me. My gastritis is in the top of my stomach so it even hurts to swallow when it flares up. Im still on the Tramodol and I have paracetamol with it. It can be the next day before it settles down then it soon flares up again. I don,t touch alcohol at all. I could tolerate a shandy though a few months ago until it started flaring up like this. It can really get a grip even when you think it is going. "

" I haven't had a flare in months, but did last week. I also ached all over, but am feeling a little better. I went back on a very careful diet, which seems to be helping. The culprit seems to be a virus going around my family. My children also ached all over, including the stomach area. Anything going around in your particular area? This bug is tough and seems to last about a week.
Hope things are better! "

" Yorky, wine is not good for gastrtitis and yes it can set off an attack as you described. Also, have you checked to see if codine is gastritis friendly? I'm not sure if it is. "

" just got back from docs seems i may have some muscular problems with my chest so that could account for the pains i was getting yesterday. seems lifting kei all the time could have strained the muscle that runs down the chest, also told to switch my meds round back to omeprazole & ranitidine, had 2 brilliant weeks sleep whilst on double omeprazole hence the swithch "

" That's good news Yorkyboy. Hope the switch works for you.

I'm sure wine and any alcohol has an effect on the gastritis, even in moderate amounts. I had a glass of sweet champagne 2 days ago and had to pour it down the drain after only a few sips as I could feel the burning sensation within minutes. Guess that's it for me in terms of a nice glass of sparkly :-( "
