Hello Friends,
I was curious as to how everyone would rate their progress in healing with gastritus. I don't know why but I find it therapeutic to see how are others are coming along. If you don't mind telling us how long you've been fighting the current bout you're in and what your current symptoms are. Give us your meds too. I'll start.

This bout of gastritus began in Jan of this year. I ve gone through the worst of the symptoms. Right now I'm still getting the bloating, heaviness and swelling and I get the crazy hunger pangs once or twice a day usually mid morning or after I excercise. I really don't have much pain per say maybe some minor twinges here and there. Currenty medicating with 20 mg of prilosec and zantac as needed. Avoiding coffee still but eating ALMOST anything I want.

" Good idea Jim229!!

- I've had gastritis for a year now
- it's improved a lot since February and I've slowly reduced the herbs
- I might get the odd little niggle, but otherwise I'm 99% pain free and not taking any meds at the moment (not for the last 1.5 months or so) - only managing it with a fairly strict diet still
- was taking Nexium and slippery elm for the first 5 months, then changed to the herbal route, including the slippery elm when necessary

- I take a therapeutic dose of probiotics daily (x4-6), a multivit, vit c, vit b, fish oil, cod liver oil, flax oil, calcium

- I'm doing self-hypnosis (Glenn Harrold), meditating, qigong and will be starting yoga again as I'm feeling stronger and a lot more energetic since my 40 hour supervised water fast last week (it was to check if I was hypoglycemic, which I'm not thank goodness)

- I'm very open to all sorts of alternative treatment/therapies/etc and I'm currently experimenting with Ayurveda and eating to calm my pitta dosha. It's fasconating and seems to be working well. "

" I've had gastritis since last July, following surgery. Most days I have little or no pain, and I'm back to eating most foods, and have been for a few months. Occasionally, though, I may get a very slight tinge, which I can't even really call 'pain.' I still credit the warmer weather for helping the healing, and hope I don't go backwards this Fall and winter!

I continue to take aloe gel/juice in water with a little fruit juice once a day, one Carafate at night, and take an occasional DGL licorice tablet off and on through the day, if I remember to. I was taking 2 cups of slippery elm tea, but now only take one in the morning. I sometimes have chamomile or gingerroot tea either in the afternoon or evening.

I haven't gone back to sodas or coffee, but don't think I ever will.
I think if I had to pick one thing that can kick things up a bit, it would be something too salty. I do have to remind myself to drink more water! "

" Hi Jim,
I've had gastritis since Aril 2010 and it is healing. I had an attack for no known reason on Sunday but thankfully the pain only lasted 12 hours.
I take slippery elm and a probiotic for the gastritis and iberogast for the IBS.
I can now manage tomatoes and cannot tell you the joy every time i eat some.
For the most part the gastritis is stable and I slowly (one at a time) re introduce old foods. If not for the IBS that hit April 2011 I'd be pain free.
Cheers,
Cas "

" Since I have eliminated all foods that I am intolerant to, I have not had a flair up in over 3 months, my b12 levels are finally normal after 25+ years, my vit D3 levels are staying at a good level

I only use candied ginger when I have eaten something that upsets the tummy and it alievates(sp) the pain and symptoms. "

" Hi
Just joined this group...love reading all the posts.

I've been living with gastritis for the past 7-8 years. It started off with pain attacsk every few month and over the years gradually got worse. I was only officially diagnosed about 6 months ago after various mis-diagnosis, a removed gallbladder etc etc.

Two endoscopies later I finally had a definite answer yet was still unable to determine the cause of the radom attacks. I was put on Nexium and Zantac but nothing was really keeping it at bay. FINALLY it all came together just a few weeks ago when I was writing down everything and anything that could be related. It was my pain medication from pre and post surgery. After having finsihed all my other meds I was left with taking Tylenol3 and was under the impression it was ok to take. But it was the final culprit and after stopping it alltogether I am getting much much better.

I now survive on Zantac as needed and daily Nexium. I am retaking my H-bac test this week and the doc want to check if its gone. I have been doing some research on diet changes these past days and am amazed that a few of the common known causes are part of my diet (ie Diet Coke and sparkling water as well as coffee). I am now cutting out those few that are well known and will see what difference it makes. Also want to start taking vitamin supplements and fish oil as I'm past 40 years old and need to look into that anyway.

Great reading all the comments. It's been a huge help. . "
