Advice:
Carafate with antibiotics?

I suspect that I have a urinary tract infection and I will need to go and get antibiotics for it. I've also been taking Carafate all week for my esophagitis and gastritis. Hopefully, the doctors will tell me what I need to know. But I'm just wondering if anyone else has been in the predicament where they've needed to take both. And how did you manage with the timing of it?

I have to take 2 tablespoons of Carafate on an empty stomach an hour before eating in the morning and 2 tablespoons two to three hours after meals at night time.

" I have a similar situation. I need to take 1 dose of nitrofurantoin each day to prevent urinary tract infections. I am taking Pepcid and DGL for my gastritis/GERD. Get on the internet and figure out how long the antibiotic's peak plasma level is as well as its maximum effect in hours. Then do the same for Carafate. I need to do this because nitrofurantoin requires food and stomach acid to work. For instance, Pepcid dosed during the daytime is down to 25% in 8 hours; sometimes 6. Nitorfurantoin's peak plasma is 1-2 hours. So I wait until 6 hours have passed since taking the Pepcid and take the nitrofurantoin. Nitrofurantoin is effective for about 6 hours. So I wait another 3.5 to 4 hours before taking Pepcid or DGL again.

This isn't the best treatment for my gastritis/GERD but it's the best I can do.

Hope this isn't too complicated!

" Manuka Honey works to keep UTIs at bay, and it does wonders for your stomach. 2 or 3 tbsp a day should be enough. "
