My 10 year old son has a chronic disease, dermatomyositis, where he is on a large prednisone dose and numerous other meds which have caused gastritis. He has had endoscopy and colonoscopy and just got out of the hospital after a 2 week stay for all this pain. Our doc won't give opiods. Why? I know it can slow down the gut. What other reason exists for denying opioids? And what is the problem with using them when he has a bad day or two? My son's pain is really bad. It is horrible to see my chronically ill child frustrated by his disease and its life limitations and now this new pain. Help please.

Hi there,
I am so sorry your son is in so much pain I can relate I have severe gastritis for months now and I have gotten little relief. I don't know why they won't prescibe him anything but I can tell you what helps me a little. Other than some mylanta I use a hot water bottle or heating pad across the area that hurts usually the upper belly area. I don't know why this helps me but it does. Remember not to make it too hot. I will pray for relief for your son. I hope this works for you. Take care Antonietta
