Advice:
Pain in the neck

i recently joined the group & have read some of the topics & can sympathize with you. I've had gastritis for about 2 years now & have dealt with many problems with it. Recently I've been having a pain on the left side of my neck like a sore muscle. I don't know if it's hitting other nerves or muscles but sometimes the discomfort travels to my armpit or my bottom back left tooth. i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Lately when I eat or drink anything, even water, I get bloated or gassy. Then I get the pain in the neck & it subsides after I have a bowel movement or pass gas. I usually get the pain in my chest that shoots right through to my back (shoulder area) but lately it's been in my neck. I'm not on any medication & I try to watch what I eat. I can't eat any vegetables, they go right through me, but I did have a sandwich with lettuce & tomato the other week, which I have not eaten in months, & this when the problem began. It just concerns me since it's on the left side of my body & I think it has something to do with my heart but I'm pretty sure it's just another symptom that has to work its way though. Thanks for listening & any advice is appreciated.

" Hi, I don't have the pain in my neck, but I do get pains all over, literally. Gas can do funny things to you. I get a sense of fullness in my chest and back, random pains in my entire torso area, especially flank pains, pains under rib cage mainly on left side and sometimes right side, and other 'unexplainable' aches and pains. From what I understand, there are nerves that go through your abdominal region and connect different parts of the body, and when you have inflammation in your stomach it causes your nerves to get inflamed too. Gas also travels, and it hurts. I get gas pains even in my breasts, and that has scared me many times. I seem to have a lot of the symptoms that people in this group describe, except nausea or vomiting. My last bout of gastritis (still going through it) started with a nasty sandwich from a popular 'sub chain'. I am really NOT used to eating that rubbish, I just happened to be in an area with no healthy eating places. You can just imagine how angry I am, since a month and a half later I'm still dealing with the effects of corporate food poisoning. "

" hammock, thanks for the advice on how gas affects the nerves, it explains so much. Doctors don't tell you these things. When I explain symptoms to them I feel like they're looking at me like I'm making things up because they run tests and there's nothing wrong. The one time I had such discomfort under my left rib cage it felt like something was stuck there and wouldn't pass through. I pushed on the area until it felt like it passed. I don't know if it actually works that way but that's how it felt.

About a month after I wrote this I had a heart palpitation & went to the ER. Nothing was wrong but they kept me overnight and ran a stress test in the morning. Since I was in the ER so long and they wouldn't let me eat before the test I hadn't eaten for 18 hours and the pain in my neck went away. I felt like my system restarted itself with the fasting. A week after my ER visit I saw my Gastroenterologist and he put me on Nexium. This has helped me be able to eat a little easier but I still have problems with vegetables. It is difficult to eat healthy when you can't eat salads or snack on carrots or celery. I'm usually fine when I eat things in moderation but I start having the bloating and tightness when I eat too much of one thing like red meat or sugar. "
