Hi All,
I have been on DS for my MS for quite a while so I am using this Support Group for Gastric as a guide. My favorite cousin just called me she was dx'd w/stomach cancer/lymphoma. Docs said she will need to start chemo/radiation soon. I want to learn about meds...procedures..support groups for her. I must help her keep her spirit up. Can anyone tell me what happens right after dx and what I should do to help her...please Thank you, Mary Posted on 04/28/08, 02:04 pm |

hey mary just found out my dad has stomach cancer also. not sure of treatment yet but your cousin should check out cancer treatment of america.that is where my dad is going and i believe they have programs to help you pay for treatment. but from what i'm told they are the best treatment place. the only thing i can say is stay strong for her and be there for her the best you can.I know its easier said then done. you both are in my prayers.

What is going on? my dad had surgery, got a staph infection, had chemo, radiation, and then a yeast infection in his esophagus because radiation left him vulnerable to infection. My mom died a month before he was diagnosed, so he has been feeling really hopeless. we go to a psychologist tomorrow...otherwise i think his depressed spirit will prevent his healing.....tell me something positive/hopeful about your cuz.
love from sc

Hi Diandi,
The good news is cousin had 4 tratments chemo/radiation she doing well they are cancelling the last 2. They want her to go to UCLA to do a new procedure where they take a persons own stem cells out and then put them back. The doctor says this will act as an insurance policy to keep her well/in remission. I do not understand the procedure at all I just sent her an email to get more info. I will pray for you Dad's remission.

My son was dx with stage 4 gastric cancer in Dec. He did several rounds of chemo. Your cousin's oncologist should give him a plan of treatment depending on the stage he is at. What stage is it in? If itis not too advanced, like my son's then they can remove all or part of the stomach.. If you have any further questions, please ask..
