Dad has stage 3b stomach cancer

For the past 6 months or so my step dad has been having some stomach issues. He has visited with his Dr and they decided to do a scope at the same time he was having another procedure. I took him to the appointment and as soon as the Dr told me that he had a large ulcer and had taken samples to be tested. I knew that it would be cancer. I pushed that thought to the back of my head until late one night when my mom called telling me that the Dr office had called the house 3 times earlier that day wanting them to go into the Dr office. They then called again first thing in the morning to make sure that we would be there. Me, my mom and step dad went to the appointment and as soon as the Dr came into the room I knew it was cancer. More tests were done and he has stage 3b stomach cancer however they believe that it may have moved up to the nodes in the neck but we won't have those results until tomorrow. He will start chemo in just a few short days. The thing is that he had stage 4 non hodgkin's lymphoma 15 years ago and every year when he had his colonoscopy tumors with pre cancer cells were removed so the fear of him getting cancer again has always been there. He has always said that if ever faced with cancer again he would not get chemo. In my heart I knew that he would fight again because of my kids (7, 5, 2.5 and 1) and how close they are too him. I was not around when he went though cancer the first time as I was living in IL with my bio dad and he was living in TX. My husband, myself and our kids live with my mom and step dad now so we will be here through all of it so I thought it might be a good idea to join a support group on line.

" Hi,
You might want to join the cancer support group. But I can tell you that I feel your pain.......... For the second time in my life I am going through cancer, this time is stomach cancer, but I am lucky that it is stage 1, it was caught on time, and that I have very pro-active Doctor's, the first time that I had cancer it was in my lungs, so I always expected cancer to come back, but not in my stomach!
I am going through my third round of chemo, did radiation, and also had part of my stomach removed, so I've been there.

This support group is for people that suffer from chronic and intractable pain, so you might not get that many asnwers, or people that have knowledge of cancer, so that is why I suggest that you go to the cancer forums and see if you have better luck there. In the meantime, good luck to your step-dad, I hope that he does not become a heard head and refuse chemo because that would be a HUGE mistake! Take care and I hope that y'all get the help and support that you need. Hugs, "

" Hi; I'm so sorry for finding your message this late and was moved by what your going through. I was also diagnosed with Stage 3 stomach cancer nine years ago and they removed the entire stomach. Nine out of 12 lymph nodes were affected (one being a centimeter and a half in size)
I eat everything - some foods cause nausia (dry heave) especially water ... but I plug through. Weight went to 80/90 lbs - today I'm stabalized at 150. Please add me as a friend and let me know how you and your step dad are doing?
Peace Love and Joy xoxoxoxo "
