Many docs vary in what they want for pre op diets. A liquid diet will assure a good jump start to weight loss, it would seem. Also, probably goes to helping "clean out the system."

The strict pre-op regimen is designed to firm up your liver. Obese people have fatty livers which can be easily injured during surgery, The liver has to be lifted to get to your stomach, so firming it up will help avoid complications and make your surgery go much more smoothly.

Congrats on the surgery date. Usually i hear its not a strict liquid diet but a liquid meal replacement so you get all your nutrients and your liver firms and shrinks.

gratz on your date and i was told no food for 2 days prior to surgry
and i was suppose to be 24 pure fasting with that miralax

I was also told 2 days before surgery i was to be on strictly clear liquid, no food at ALL, and then i have to purchase some of that nasty "magnesium citrate" the day before surgery to "clean" me out. LOL! Oh joy!

CONGRATS girl, i'll be right there with ya...or well...in california while you're in texas having the surgery on the same day. WOOT WOOT! :)

Thanks everybody. I just do not know if I can do this another 9 days. Cooking meals for everyone else & not eating any should be considered cruel & inhumane punishment! If I had any will power, I would not weigh as much as a smart car now and have to go to this extreme to get my life in order. Guaranteed I will be tired of Atkins shakes...lol.
