Hey Everyone! I'm new to DailyStrength. I was recently approved for gastric bypass surgery and just about two days ago I got my surgery date.
I will be having surgery on November 18th. I was wondering if anyone will be having wls on or around that date? If so, please let me know so we can keep in contact. It will be great to have someone going through the process with me and I'm sure it will help for you too. Thanks in advance and I'm SUPER appreciative of all the posts on this website. Very helpful! :) -Steph Posted on 11/07/09, 03:11 pm |

I am having my RNY surgery on Wednesday,
18 Nov 09 @ 0730 as well. What kind are you having? Your picture looks like you already had surgery. I have been on liquid diet(mostly Atkins shakes x 3 a day)since 04 Nov 09 and I must say it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to cook for my family. Things I don't even like (fried Okra) smell good to me & all the commercials on TV are for food. I will finish my cardiac clearance with an Echocardiogram, the fancy word for ultra-sound of the heart, 07 Nov 09 & then all I have to do is starve till the 18th. LOL Good Luck and we definately need to stay in touch. ---Hope

OMG paatiwack (love your name)where do you live? No, wait...where are you having your surgery? That is a long wait.
I saw my doc for the first time on 15 Oct 09 & my surgery is 18 Nov 09. I have done nothing these past 3 weeks but go to different docs for all the before surgery stuff. I got my surgery date the 4th, the day I was approved, and I went straight to the hopsital and had all the pre-op labs, chest X-ray & an EKG...which I failed, nearly causing me to have a real heart attack. I called the cardiologist the 5th at 1030 & they said be here @ 1130 I was and he checked me out, scheduled a nuclear stress test @ the hospital for 0830 Friday the 6th & the echo for the 9th. Poof Done. BUT, I pressed everybody, alot. When I was asked when I wanted an appointment for whatever I would say yesterday. If they couldn't give me a date I wanted I called another doc. And everytime I go to any doc it is 120 miles round trip. But I want this so bad I don't even care how much gas costs or all the miles I am driving. Be assertive and call them first thing Monday and get your date! Good Luck. ---Hope

HopetoGain: I am actually having gastric bypass. I know i don't look that big in my picture, but when you've been fat most of your life you start to learn how to take "face" pics that don't look like you're HUGE. LOL! I'm not thin in any way. I'm at 250lbs.
For sure. We'll have to keep in contact. This is my email too: stephanieclee26@yahoo.com P.S. I have a blog. www.stephaniel26.blogspot.com Check it out if you have time. I am super excited about surgery. I was told i'm not able to drink any "protein shakes" before surgery, just clear liquid two days before surgery. it's crazy because i'm noticing that a lot of surgeon's do thing differently according to what they believe is best. Although, if anyone can give me ideas on a protein shake that doesn't have a lot of sugar/calories/carbs that doesn't takes like ca-ca that would be great. Thanks! :) keep in touch everyone! :)

Btw: I agree paatiwack, that really sucks that you have to wait so long. I would have died probably (exaggerating, lol) if i had to wait that long. The hardest part is the wait. Wondering, all the questions that go through your head. I know what it's like. Definitely not in the extent though that you have. I went in for my very first appointment to meet with Dr. Felix (my surgeon) on October 21st. I'm having surgery on November 18th. So that's almost a month, but not quite.
I guess it just depends on where you're from and the surgeon's office. My surgeon's office was really on the ball with things and totally didn't skip a beat. In fact my surgeon was so stern with me about getting this all done as soon as possible that I didn't have time to think about holding off on anything. LOL! I wanted it to go as fast as possible and he tried to help me with that. It worked. When i went in for my first appointment the two people that had already had their surgeries about 5 days prior said that they got in and done with everything INCLUDING surgery within 3 weeks to 1 month. That's amazing! Sounds like they are just a very busy office. A lot of people are getting it done at the end of the year too because their premiums are met on their insurance for the year. I'm not NEAR mine, but just happened to meet someone who had the surgery in August and has lost 50lbs already. It got me really interested and I didn't waste any time. I wish you all luck and hang in there paatiwack, it goes faster than you think when you're out having fun and not thinking about it. I know it's easier said than done, but do everything you want to do now, because your life WILL change a LOT afterwords. :) Enjoy!

A high protien, low carb shake that doesn't taste like ca-ca. HAHAHAHAHA it is to laugh.
Thilly Gurl. But Atkins makes shakes that are 160 cal, 2g carbs, & 16g protien that are tolerable. The one I like best is Milk Chocolate, Moccha Latte next, havent tried the Vanilla, and the Strawberry is just plain gross...to me. I tried the Slim Fast Low carb/high protien...not as good as Atkins and more pricey. So that is what I live on 3 a day. 9 more days to go. Rather 27 shakes to go. UGGGH
