I would like to know your opinion on the Walmart Super Advanced Whey protein shakes vs the ones the docs recommend... I bought 2 of the ones from walmart and it has 68g per 2 scoops of protein the sugar is 3g carb is 8g.. is this ok for those who have tried them all please tell me your thoughts.. I am on a real strict budget so I was able to get 2 different flavors as only one of the Isopure, and others the doc recommends.. and just don't want to spend alot of money till I know what I like... Is this ok to start out with?? I will be taking my vitamins that is recommended...

Thanks

" I have found that some of the Walmart brand protein powders have a weird after-taste. A lot of people like them though. I really like BSN protein powder or Syntha 6. My doctor gave out Fusion or Unjury, both of which tasted fine. "

" For me personally, I did try the walmart super advanced whey protein shakes, and OMG yuk!! I still have 2 big huge containers in my pantry. In my opinion it was very hard to mix, very lumpy, after blending it, it became very froathy which I didn't like. So I'd end up sitting it in the fridge to let the foam die down. But to me tasted over-sweet after surgery, gritty and gloppy.

The one I was able to tolerate the best, were the premixed EAS protein shakes. They don't have the exact same product anymore that I had back in February. They have changed it up a little, I think walmart carries the EAS myoplex lite with 20g, and a carb control version with 17g.

I have gone into several small local vitamin/supplement shops, because they are more willing to give out samples of their protein powders. It does seem like the protein powders that do taste good or decent will cost you $25-$45 per container. But with the savings you'll have on not buying regular foods or fast food/junk food anymore, it balances out and doesn't really cost you more in the long run. Best of luck!! "

" I tried the ones from walmart already just didn't know if they were ok to have after the surgery ... I like them and yeah they do take a bit more mixing but I add my powder first then the milk and mix in a blender and works well.. wish I was closer I would take the ones you have in your pantry off your hands .. lol....thanks Callie... " If you like them, then yes those are fine to use after surgery. No one brand is right, whatever works for you! "

" they are all expensive and I agree with Callie- they always become froathy--ughh. I have been using Muscle Milk light-its the perfect size for us-- 8.5 oz with 15 grams of protein. The 4 pk is $5.99 here so I dont buy them a lot. i use the advanced Whey strawberry and vanilla and I depending what flavor I use I will put in 1 scoop with either i carton of yogurt, skim milk (8 oz approx) and ice and sometimes sugar free syrup and blend for a just a few seconds . That usually gives me 2 -8oz cups and I leave one in fridge to de-froathe and drink the other one as it defroathes. I like the EAS as well. The best is carnation instant (no sugar added) but that only has 5 g of protein. Good luck

" hey girl, it's Steph. I bought some at walmart yesterday as planned. I bought the body fortress kind. Sounds about like what you got. Has 26g protein in 1 scoop and 56g in 2 scoops. Although they were out of chocolate so i settled for vanilla. Tried it with water, YUCK! I heard though that after RNY a lot of people become lactose intolerant so I'm going to have to buy from soy milk and use that with it because the water is "tolerable" but not hardly enough and I know AFTER surgery I don't want to be shocked when it becomes INTOLERABLE.. lol and I throw up.

Hope you are doing great! :) "

" My doctor requires that I use Whey protein isolates. I have found some protein powders that are not isolate. GNC has several types and flavors that have worked good for me. I am lactose intolerate so I have to mix mine with Hood or some other lactose free product. "

" I didn't like the walmart brand either. I buy Pure Protein brand in Chocolate and use a special shaker cup I bought from GNC. It mixes the powder very very well and no lumps. I also love the muscle milk light protein bars. they are yummy "
