I started looking into having GPB about two yrs ago. Then we decided to move cross the country and come home. I finally started my new journey in June, seeing Phyc, nuetritionalist, councilers and passing all classes. So now I'm waiting for the surgeons appointment Nov 25th. Anyway heres my thing I was told not to gain or lose any weight. I am eating things that I never found any interest in before. Whoopie pies, Frito's, ordering a piece of pie for lunch or breakfast if I go out, just plain stupid stuff, all the while knowing that "this is it, so get it while I can" additude. Is this normal? did anyone else do this?

Very normal. But not necessary. Because we will be able to have most foods again someday--just in smaller quantities.

Yes, it happened to me too. I think because in my mind I knew I wasn't going to be eating the same, and a lot of things would be no more. I think I had the, "this is it, so get it while I can" attitude. Just a few weeks preop, I went and had a whopper meal at burger king, and then drove straight to jack in the box and had a sourdough jack meal. Back to back. Not pretty, but I think it has most to do with the food addiction part of the process I was trying to get over. And am so glad that is in the past, and no longer does the food control me. Hang in there sweety, you are human, but you are in control of your choices. I wish you the best!

SilentFall is right. It is very normal to feel this way. Pre surgery the misconception is that we will never be able to eat foods if they aren't healthy but that just isn't the case at all. I am a little over a year out and I can eat pretty much anything I want within reason. But in very small quantities. The only thing that still gives me some problems is sugar so I usually try to stay away from that. It still makes me sick. But I eat normal foods even some foods that are a little higher in fat and calories but I can tolerate them in small amounts with no problems of getting sick or gaining weight. We just have to be sensible and still practice the art of eating things in moderation! Good luck with your process. You will be fine and you will love the journey you are about to enter!
