Iron Nausea

I was doing so well right out of surgery, but have been non-stop nauseated for the past one and a half weeks. I am afraid to eat or drink because I just want to throw up. Yesterday I didn't take my iron pill, and guess what? I felt okay....today I took it and I have been nauseated all day again. Anyone else have a problem with iron pill nausea and what did you do? I am not being healthy by not eating or drinking because of fear, so I need some help....(gonna call doctor in morning too).

Thank you so much. This group is the best!

" iron is VERY hard to digest.

Which type of iron are you taking?

Ferrous Sulfate is the HARDEST type for us to metabolize. AND it causes the most distress.

Your other choices are Ferrous Fumerate,
Ferrous Gulconate, and Carbonyl Iron.

Each of these choices of iron a chelated to help with digestion.

God Bless!

" My doctor put me on Slow Fe Iron. It realeases slowly into the system and helped me with nausea. I also made sure to take it with my viatmin C cwewable. it helps it absord better. The other thing is maybe take it at night when you are ready for bed. Then you can sleep through the nausea. "

" I use a liquid iron (Spa) which is just a tear open package, that I pour in my crystal lite once a day. No taste, no constipation, no nausea....great stuff. "

" Alot of people have trouble taking iron. My family Doc prescibed B12 shots which I had one a week for first four weeks and now once a month. My surgeon had said to take B complex twice a week before breakfast but my tummy didn't agree. Hope you feel better soon. "

" I am exactly the same way with Iron as well...as soon as I swallow the pill or the liquid iron I want to vomit. It hurts so bad!! I am going to see my surgeon this month to see if there is another way for me to get it in. Iron is nasty stuff to take!!
