A little over a month post op. I feel thirsty all the time! Between trying to eat and waiting my 1/2 hr before, and the 45min after, Im sippin all day long. The water is starting to taste sweet. I thought maybe cause it got hot? New bottle... and sweet.. o.0 all confused about that one.
Im eating green veggies like french style green beans since they are so squishy, but feel like Im not getting the water in fast enough. Someone said Gatoraide G2. I cant drink enough of it. Its nasty to boot. Another said pedialyte? Anyone else have ideas? I read all day long on threads about it, but its more athletes, and volumes that they can drink. Um.. dont work that way for us pouch-peeps. Ideas? Posted on 07/05/09, 12:07 am |

I have been lucky, from day one I have been able to take big gulps of water,I think thats cos I have always drank alot of water all my life.It must seem weird when you can only sip.I think there are conflicting issues on this wait of taking in water so long before and so long after food.My dietician or surgeon never told me to do this, hence I haven't.It has had no bearing at all on my weight loss.I know rules are a bit diff over here, but we have had the same op so the rules should be the same, crazy lol.Try what is best for you Jenny. If you drink as normal and are still eating and losing weight,do that. The fact your feeling thirsty all the time means one thing, you need more liquid. Also your only a month out,you will soon find your own routine.Remember all these rules do not work the same for everyone.Tweek things to suit you.Not sure about the electrolytes, would think these were only needed if your salts/minerals etc are out of balance or your doing a marathon lol.Keep us updated pls.Good luck.Andrea xxxx

Remember, that we have surgery induced malabsorption issues ON PURPOSE. Get your blood tests done before supplementing with electrolyte heavy drinks.

Hi,
My drink of choice was always water and I miss that cold sensation in my throat. I realized that when I gulped it was to get that feeling. I suck ice cubes once in a while maybe you could try that. Also if you are eating meat or starch I think you need more liquid. Lastly, are you getting enough protein? I am 18days out and really notice when I dont get enough. Good Luck!

I eat ff refried beans, mac and cheese, baked potato, tunafish with ff mayo. On the 6th I get to have ground beef (weee!) The following monday, I get shaved deli meats. Maybe that will help getting some food besides 'squish food' in there. Doc appt on Tue, will keep ya posted. ^_^ ty as always my little e-family!
