Hello everyone I am a new member I decided to join this group because I feel my surgeon doesn't care about me now that he has his money and won't bother to answer my questions. I had surgery 9/8/09 so I'm about 8 weeks out. Before my surgery my doctor was so sweet and said call if I had ANY questions I have called about 5 times in the 8 weeks and his answer to me is go see my regular doctor. UG! Anyways I have had 2 staph infections and still fighting on now on my belly. I have to go to the doctor everyday and have it re-packed and get an antibiotic shot. It has not been fun.
So this brings me to my question, actually I have 2. 1. In the last week or so my finger tips have been sooo dry and cracking. This has never happened to me before and I am wondering if it has to do some kind of vitamin deficiency. (I must point out that I throw up every time I take a vitamin or drink a protein shake since I got this infection so I know I do not have enough in my system.) 2. I am supposed to be able to eat anything now. I take small bites, and chew very well like I should but I throw up every time I eat anything with texture. I can only keep down soup, potatoes, yogurt, things like that. Every time I eat anything else it feels like it is getting stuck and I throw up big mucus balls. I'm not sure why and if that is normal? Can anyone help? Thanks so much. Rachel Posted on 11/02/09, 11:11 am |

Rachel....wow I am so sorry to hear your Dr isn't doing anything about this staph affection......im sure it was caused by surgery. Have ya not had any follow ups? My Dr and his office answered everything and any time i called until I got a yr out...now they say call my primary dr.
You should be on phase 2 soft foods...like egg beaters, yogart, beans ....stuff like that and your fingertips are dry cause it sounds like you are dehydrated. U should be pushing at least 60 oz of fluids a day. I am amazed at this Dr who is not helping you thru this rough spot with this staff infection. Where are you from?

My wife said she noticed an increase in the dryness of her skin shortly after surgery. I haven't had a similar dryness - but I'm only 4 weeks out. We have found what we believe is the absolute best moisturizing cream for hands/feet - a generic form of Eucerin sold by Walgreens (labeled "Therapeutic Moisturizing Cream"). It's got lanolin and lasts a long time.
WRT nausea, is it possible that you are eating too fast? The couple of times I got nauseated from 'textured food', I'm pretty sure it was because I got in a hurry. Now I just take one bite and let that settle for five minutes, then a couple more bites. I've been able to keep down tuna and canned chicken but I'm limiting portion to just 3-4 small bites. (~ 1 oz.) Getting nauseated is no fun.

Sorry to hear of your problems. And.....sorry to hear that your surgeon is a jerk, I think I would report him to the Medical Board in your area. He sounds like he needs to be straightened out, and if he's doing this to you, how many others are being treated the same way. Shame on him or her.
I hope you find relief in the near future.

I just wanted to say thank you all so much for the advice. I am glad I found this site because I had no one else .to ask. My PCP as great as she is has not dealt with this kind of thing and was worried she was giving me wrong info. Again thank you all
