Hello, new to board. Am looking to have surgery. Hubby brought up interesting question for me. Nothing has ever worked for me, what makes me think that gastric bypass will. I understand how it works etc, and I'm willing to do what it takes, but what is going to prevent me from failing? Any and all advice welcome! Also, I am 60 yrs old, any others around that age? Thanks in advance!

" I'm 54 and had the surgery August 4th 2009. I have lost around 75 lbs from before and after surgery. I cannot eat as much, And what I do eat is more healthier than before. It is a tool to help us lose the weight. Good Luck on what you decide.

" I too was wondering the same thing, what if it doesn't work. But I am now 21/2 months out and am down 60lbs, I will never go back. Yes, I struggled with keeping food down, but I am starting to find things I can eat and not get sick. Like Karla said, it is a tool, use it right and it will treat you right.
Good Luck and keep writing, you will definitely get a lot of support from all around.
Hugs as always,
Margaret "

" because you won't be able to eat much at all and any food you do eat will not absorb into your system. right after surgery you will be on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks, then you can add tiny chunks of food but you will only be able to eat and ounce or so. your stomach will only be as big as half your thumb. OH and remember not to drink with meals or it will wash all of the food you eat out of your pouch. "
