Ok so I had my Psychological Eval this past Tues and that went really well. The Psychiatrist told me a few thing I need to do..

The 1st was get rid of Diet Soda.. Thats DONE!!! I have NO PROBLEM letting that go. I didn't drink it too often anymore, had already cut WAY BACK..

Then there's the coffee.. Need to start drinking DECAF..I've tried it in the past, and I'm sorry it just has a bitter taste and I did NOT like it!!!! Plus, I usually start my day with my coffee..CAFFEINIE to wake up and get going. I KNOW I have to do this BUT How??? I'm gonna buy a small can of DECAF and try to "slowly" add it to my regular for a while..Maybe like half & half or something...How did You all do it? ESPECIALLY those of You that needed it to wake-up and get You going everyday?? I mean there's NO CAFFEINE!!!

I'm up for suggestions, idea's,etc.

ALSO, I'm looking for some ideas on where to find some nice "SUGAR FREE" flavoring syrups, extracts ect so I can have flavored coffee..Also, not too expensive! Help please!!!

Thanks

" DaVinci makes sugar-free syrups in all sort of flavors. You can find them in some markets, but the most complete selection along with other sugar-free suggestions are on bariatriceating.com. As far as the caffiene goes: cold turkey is gonna give you migraines. Wean slowly to mitigate withdrawl. Once it is out of your system, you will find you don't need it to get started. "

" I couldn't do the decaf either, I know where you are on that one! I did quit tho.

about 3 mos b4 surgery Istarted tapering off how much I had in the mornings and by 1 month b4 surgery I was down to none.

I stayed off the coffee til I was 6 mos. out.

Guess what I have in front of me at 9:22am on this rainy Sunday morning! ;)

God Bless!

Janelle "

" I started weaning myself off coffee about 10 days before surgery. I had a constant, slight headache for about a week. I LOVED my coffee and would have several cups throughout the day. I didn't go to decaf as the whole point of my drinking coffee was for the caffeine. Now I really like not feeling dependant on it every morning and I doubt I will ever start drinking it again. I just feel better, and the extra energy I get from weighing less makes up for the lack of caffeine. It's just one of the many changes for the better that I had to make to adapt to my new lifestyle. BTW, I'm 2 months out :) "

" I am with you.

Have to have my coffee and my doctor doesn't mind. In fact we shared a cup one morning in his office.

I have no problems with it. But listen to your dr. we are all different and so is their advice.

Try tea? "

" I did the same as Janelle. I stayed away from it for about 4 months afterwards and then I tried to do the decaf, but it doesn't taste as good to me either. I am drinking regular right now too. Some times I will fix it with half caf/half decaf. I use a sugar free powder mix for my flavoring. I love the french vanilla.

" A lot of people I know started added a smidgen of decaf to their regular brew, slowly adding more of the decaf as time goes on. I agree with a number of the people here... quitting cold turkey is going to hurt! My brother is a self proclaimed coffee/caffeine addict and he tried to do go cold turkey and it was awful. He had awful, awful headaches, the shakes and was a real a$$-hole. We begged him NEVER to do that again! : }
I'm finding by eating healthier, taking the vitamins, I'm having more energy than BS (before surgery! *giggle*) I had even told hubby, I know I wasn't getting in enough protein BS, nor the vitamins my body needed.

G'luck

" After surgery, my husband would get very lightheaded and dizzy from drinking regular coffee. He switched to decaf and that sensation abruptly stopped. So we knew that was it. I hate coffee, even the smell of it, so it wasn't a problem for me. To me brewing coffee smells like SKUNK!! LOL It's just one of those things you have to let go of. How about mixing half caffinated and half decaf? Slowing weaning that way? Good luck!!

Hugs,
Charlene "
