Ok-here I go again-- I understand that your body is like what the heck did you do but I have been on pureed foods for exactly 2 weeks and I gained 2 pounds!! I am like what the heck- For the first week of puree all I ate was either egg whites in moring (oatmeal the next day) protein drink, then either quarter cup of the yogurt carton and save the remaining for next time (always diet kind) or maybe cottage cheese (1%) 1/4 to 1/2 c depending what I can stomach and for dinner it was tilapia (3oz if I could) and 1/4 c of mashed potatoes. Last week I hardly ate anything at all since my schedule was all screwed up. I am exercising every day by walking and tonight I went back to the gym and was on the treadmill for 45 minutes on a incline of 4. I weighed myself after working out on one of those "balancing scales" at the gym and it was 2 pounds more. I started thinking about the sodium I might be taking in and the only time I actually use salt is on a hard boiled egg or cottage cheese so i stopped that and people at work were telling me sodium is high in the fat free soups which I had a lot of last week for dinner since its fast and it goes down easy. I have been looking at the carbs, fat content and sugar and nothing else. I am soo frustrated and sad and I know I shouldn't be and I am trying not to be this way but here "we" are starting over and at such a drastic way and I am now gaining 2 pounds at 3 weeks out?? I am getting the protein in by drinking those god awful protein "shots" from Walmart but I dilute them with water. I guess I am wondering what have some of you eaten and done when you first started out? I dont really like refried beans or chilli-I know a lot of you have said its good with cheese, etc but I just cant eat that-ughh. Please tell me I am doing something wrong!! My doc said I couldn't go on elliptical yet -has anyone started on that type of exercise at 3 weeks out yet? Please help-- I appreciate it and I apologize for complaining!!

Here's my advice:
Don't weigh yourself so often! I speak as a person who can & would be obsessed with the scale if I let myself! I know we are programmed to think it's the numbers on the scales that are telling us the true story of our success (or failure) but honestly, it's not, it's just a mere guideline of sorts. The true story is in how our clothes fit, how we feel and yes, how we are looking! Our weight will fluctuate from hour to hour, day to day because of all reasons. Its okay, we are all going through this together! And it's good for us to share our experiences. Hugs, Peggy

I had EXACTLY the same problem at EXACTLY the same time post-op!! I almost died when I saw a weight GAIN - I didn't even know it was possible at that stage! I was beyond discouraged, and like MANY before me thought "Maybe I am the one person this surgery will not work for!!" I stopped weighing myself for a while, about 2 weeks, and when I got back on it was down again. Also, while the scale wasnt showing a loss, I felt like I was shrinking anyway. I think my body just really wants to hang on to this weight and is fighting me every step of the way - "starvation mode" is a terrible thing! BUT, I know I will win this battle! The setbacks sure are discouraging though! Hang in there, I promise it will start to come off again!

Hi Tracy, I dont own scales, and in fact i am 5 weeks out and haven't weighed in 10 days. i use the same scale all the time, at my surgeons office, so if I am in the area I stop in. I TOTALLY feel your pain about the protein i am having a heck of a time with that. The vitamin shop has one that is a little tolerable, but there is a store here in fort lauderdale, Bariatric Eating and they have a website, they have a protein powder that is unflavored and for the most part you can't taste it. i put it in my tea and water and soup. I hate refried beans and chili also, wow i thought i was the only picky eater on the planet!

Hi all- thanks once again for the support-- I am soo glad people responded- I was thinking I was being anoying about complaining all the time-- I havent weighed myself since going to Ballys' last Monday- I agree Julie- I feel skinnier and I dont understand because before all this -I once lost 50 pounds doing weight watchers and got down to 270 so I know I weighed less than I do now but for some reason I feel skiinier-- weird. I almost weighed myself today at Ballys but refrained myself so I will weigh myself again at Ballys on Monday and really really hope I see results but for some reason if I only see a few pounds it will still upset me so its a catch 22-- I keep telling myself to be patient-- I go back to the surgeon on Oct 8 and I should be on the "soft food" stage-- isnt that pureed anyway? Welll its a journey thats for sure--patience patience -- thanks everyone

Hey girlfriend!
I know that muscle weighs more than fat - maybe weighing yourself after working out was not a true reflection. It sounds like you are eating the right things - maybe increase water? Try not to get discouraged, I am sure it will all work itself out!! Hang in there!!

Tracy,
I just went through this. I will be 5 weeks post-op on Wednesday. For the last 2 weeks, I would gain a few pounds, lose a few pounds. I was going crazy. The other day I finally started losing again, and have lost about 4 pounds. I have now decided to weigh myself only once a week. Sundays at noon. If I feel that it's not showing enough then I will go to every other week. And yes, even though I wasn't really losing weight, I knew I was getting skinnier. Inches count, not only pounds. Good luck.

Hi there! The best advice I got from this forum was to put the scale away. I quit obsessing about the pounds and started to focus on what is really important - my health and how I feel. Amazing, when I quit worrying about the pounds, they started falling off. I weigh myself every two weeks only. I'm only 4 months out so I have stalled out here and there...that is normal and the weight will come off. Don't be so hard on yourself.
