Let me be the first to welcome you to our group - you have come to a great place of support and caring.
To answer your question, can anyone help you stop gambling? The answer is YES!.....you can! and the process has already begun by your coming here. Just 35 days ago I started looking for someone to help me and I came to this site. I spent hours reading journals and discussion topics and pretty soon I found myself joining in...sharing my story and getting TONS of support. You will find here people that started out lost and hopeless and that are now making their way day by day towards a gambling free life....towards LIFE - yeah I think that is where we all want to be... One of the things that has helped me tremendously is the process of journalling. Getting the jumble of thoughts and feelings out allows me to focus more on just today...not looking back - not looking forward, just acknowleding how I am feeling today and figuring out how to best live for just today. Lots of love, support and hope here - yours for the takin'. Welcome. Kay

Hi bowjingles,
You're in the right place for help. Gambling doesn't have to ruin your life, you can change. You can stop gambling and begin a new chapter in your life, one day at a time. As the days pass you'll begin to see life in a different way, that's recovery. I know it seems impossible to just stop, that's why we take it one day at a time. You'll hear many of us say, "just for today, I will not gamble". It's hard for many of us to think of "forever", that's why we say the just for today thing. It gets easier as the days add up. We're here for you....keep reading :)

I feel like you do. It is ruining my life yet I don't stop....I am considering GA but there are so few meetings in my area and some of them conflict with my day job......I read another post on this board about HONESTY and was just blown away....I went to NA years ago and it did help me to just be around others with my same problem and desire to stop, maybe GA is good thing for you AND ME to really look
in to. I know how bad you are feeling right now- I just blew another paycheck and OVER LIMITED all the cards, with no pay for 2 weeks.....I know how hopeless you feel right now, I considered just walking away and keep walking until I can't walk any further....I know how really SCARED you are of quitting as it is the ONLY THING that seems to interest and excite.....maybe we can find some help here and maybe we should join GA

Welcome to this group. YOU have to help yourself. If you're not sure you can do it alone, give someone you trust control of all your finances. No money, no gambling.
Compulsive gamblers like us can never win at gambling. We don't stop. We have an illness. There's no cure. There is recovery though if we do not give in to the urges (and I know they are strong, especially at first)... take it one minute, one hour .... one glorious day at a time. The urges get less. You can do this. Journal when you get an urge. Mark it private if you don't want other to see it. Read the journals of the rest of us. You will see a reflection of your pain and it helps to know others have beat this thing and you're NOT alone. Hugs. Jas
