Hi,
I am new to this recovery process. I wonder, many things and will probably boar you all with my questions. Today my wonder is, has anyone seen a link between common ADD drugs and gambling addiction. Today marks the first week in months that I have not been to the casino. This is big for me, but the day is not over yet and I know that. In this week, I have also NOT taken my adderall that I am perscribed for my ADD. I think not taking the med has helped me this week, and yet this is contrary to why I take the med (I lack the tiniest bit of impulse controil). Any thoughts? Posted on 08/14/09, 04:08 pm |

I have wondered whether I have a little bit of ADD myself. I've come to realise I have a short attention span which I think is why gambling was good for me - there were instant results and it was fun and fast paced. Perhaps it is something I will investigate with a doctor.. I do tend to be figity.. maybe I don't have ADD but just a short attention span.
I really don't understand why not taking the adderall has helped you but I would suggest you see the doctor. If you've been on it for a long time, perhaps not taking it will soon have a negative effect. I'm no doctor, but that's what I would do in your situation.. although I'm not and have never been on any medication so I don't know what it's like and I am guessing you don't like to be on it. Maybe this is a reason you've been able to control yourself.. do you not like to be on the medication?
