How do you deal with gallstones?

When I had a sonogram for fluid being removed from my stomach they found a gallstone. When I had a ct scan of my liver they found more galstones. At the time the first was found the radiologist said not to worry about that now as it wasn't big enough to be causing problems and it may pass through. After the ct scan my GI didn't follow up with anything when more gallstones were found. I know when the acites (fluid retention in stomach) was the worst it hurt like heck in my right side where the gall bladder is located but then it felt that way under my whole rib cage area due the pressure. The chiropractor did put me on lypho 160 to hopefully help the gallstones pass. He said I didn't need to deal with that extra pain. I have felt no pain in that area since the paracentesis (fluid drainage) and taking this supplement. Not until today I feel it slightly in the area of the gall bladder but wondering if slouching while watching TV in bed caused the flare up. It doesn’t hurt when I stand. I have read it is common for those with cirrhosis or liver damage may have gallstones. I do have cirrhosis. Also I noticed a couple here have had their gall bladders removed.
What led to the gall bladder being removed? What medications you use to relieve pain? Have you taken anything to help make the gallstonespass? Is it painful for a woman if the gallstones pass through? (I had a male friend that said he hurt for about 1 or 2 weeks when they passed) I would appreciate your advice and experience on gallstones.
