Dear fellow suffers of GERD
I wanted to wait at least 6 months before sharing my experience and the help and information I received on to others who are suffering from this horrific disease. I was diagnosed with GERD and a Hiatal Hernia 2 years ago and put on Proton Pump inhibitors, Zantac and Tums. I started out taking one a day but within a short period of time one pill did not help and the doctor increased the dosage to two pills a day. In December 2008, when I was now up to four PPI's a day, two 300 mg Zantac and zillions of Tums, and still suffering to the point that I almost did not want to live anymore, I decided to go to a Naturopathic doctor. When I told the doctor that I had been diagnosed with acute GERD and a Hiatal Hernia and that the doctors told me there was not cure for it he looked at me and said "you do not have GERD you have food allergies". This seemed to simple to me and I thought he was crazy but I was so desperate for a way out of the pain and suffering I was willing to have the allergy testing done. It took 3 weeks to get the results. When I went back to the doctor to get the test results, he handed me the papers which showed the foods I was allergic to. Mainly dairy and eggs as well as a few other foods. He said "stop eating the foods you are allergic to and come back in a month". I cut out all the foods I was allergic to and within the month I already experienced an improvement. I went back to the doctor one more time for a follow up visit and he told at the time that it would take my digestive system 6-8 monjths to heal. I have not gone back to the Naturopathic doctor since that time, but have ontinued to not eat the foods which I am allegic to and today 6 months later I am thrilled to announce I am completely off any medications and almost pain free. I am sharing this with you as I believe the first step should be allergy testig. I'm not saying everyones problem is allergies but from what the doctor told me a large percent of GERD suffers are suffering due to good allergies. PLEASE FIND A NATUROPATHIC DOCTOR OR A REGULAR MD WHO IS WILLING TO DO A BLOOD TEST TO FIND OUT IF YOUR PROBLEM MAY BE CAUSED BY FOOD ALLERGIES. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE AND EVERYTHING TO GAIN. As a final note I want to praise and thank my Lord Jesus Christ for His care and direction. He was the one who brought the light. I GLADLY PASS IT ON TO YOU. SisterB Posted on 06/20/09, 01:06 pm |
