Lansoprazole or Omeprazole?

Hi

I have been taking Lansoprazole for the last 8 weeks. My symptoms arent improving so the docs sugested that I change to Omeprazole. One doctors told me to take 20mg and the other 40mg so today I switched to 40mg of Omeprazole (instead of the usual 30mg of Lansoprazole). I changed because the last few days I have had a constant hunger feeling and feeling off. But I am going on holiday next week and I often feel like that when I get excited. Anyway, I have taken the Omeprazole today and have ended up with a feeling that something is on my chest, a strange taste in my mouth, feeling like I need to cough, feeling like something is coming up my throat and stabing pains that have been coming and going all today. And I still have the hunger pains. My question is, shall I take the 30mg Lansoprazole tomorrow, 20mg of Omeprazole or 40mg of Omeprazole. I need help as I am going on a 11 hour flight next week!

p.s. my mum thinks I should stick it out with the Omeprazole as I have only taken it once but something doesnt feel right. I think I may have been better off with the Lansoprazole?

" Hi Jennielou
I am on Omeprazole and I don't have any of the symptoms you are having. The only problem I had was that I was feeling very sleepy when my Dr. increased it from 20mg to 40mg. I now take it 20 mg. one day and 30 mg. the next day. Give Give the medication a chance. "

" I take 40 mg of Omeprazole in the morning, and another 40 mg before supper. It does take a while to know if it will help you or not. But I wanted to mention that you can defeat any drug if you you are not also watching your diet and raising the head of your bed. You need to do all of that so that the meds can actually help you. I found it difficult at first to make the lifestyle changes, but they actually have been the most helpful to me.

Good luck to you. I hope you are feeling better soon. "

" Ok so I took the lansoprazole again. I know I said that I had only been taking it for 8 weeks but that was 8 consecutive weeks (must be more like 10 now). I have been taking it on and off (kept having to stop for tests) since December 08! It's just not working. Nothing does. I can't eat anything except bland food, am loosing weight fast, am very depressed and it's threatening my job and my relationship. I went on holiday to Vegas last week and got back yesterday after a 10 hour flight. I couldn't eat much out there as it was greasy so mainly lived off pizza. Then on the plane I had a 5 spice chicken salad and eggplant with cheese and spinach in a tomato sauce. There was no choice. I woke up after sleeping m the plane for an hour with burning in my stomach and thought I would be sick. This still hasn't gone and it feels like there is something in my throat, it hurts and I have a slight cough. Have tried: honey, aloe vera, warm water, cold water, gaviscon (both liquid and pill form) and took my 30mg of lansoprazole. There is still the burning, the nausea, the cough and throat problems. What can I do? Do I need a higher dose? I am so depressed it makes me wonder if I can go on "
